So, my "gaming" laptop ate the dust yesterday after 2 and a half years. Now, I guess it's time to grab something new.

Nothing fancy, I just want something that's durable as hell, and has a fairly long battery life. All I need it for is some word processing mostly, though I might be doing some composing work on it, it's not that intensive.

EDIT: I want it to be strong, made out of adamantium and diamonds.

Panasonic Toughbooks are the best of the best if you want a tough as nails laptop. They're the ones the US military uses for their forward bases. Water and dust resistant, able to survive a drop of up to 5 feet while powered on, these things are beastly. And the price tag reflects that. You'll drop a good $3k on just one of 'em.

Personally, I've had good results with Acer laptops. Granted, you're on your own when it comes to support. But for someone like me, who likes to poke around under the hood, they're great. Stable machines overall. Highly modular in case a part fails. But as I said, it's really hands on when they do have problems. Their tech support is not particularly well versed in English, you have been warned.

If you have any other questions, don't hesistate to shoot me a PM.

I found searching ebay for refurbs to be quite good. I just wanted something that could access the internet, play soliatire and word process. Older laptops are just far more durable than newer ones. And cheaper. For £200 i got an old (only about 3-4 years old) toshiba that had been upgraded to the eyeballs. I'm using it now actually, while my gaming PC sits in the corner sobbing quitely.
