Right so im about to turn 17, and I live in England. I've had this laptop for 2 years now, and its served me well but sadly it's just a standard laptop. I can play WoW on it, I can just about get minecraft on it but I cant play anything graphically advanced. I don't know all of the speccs on this thing but just to read a few off the sticker on the front: 160gb hd, 2gb ram, OS: Vista basic... Yeah...

I'm now looking to get something better. I wanna be able to play some of my more demanding games, like Starcraft 2 and mass effect (etc).

Im aware that a laptop with the speccs to play games like those wont be cheap. My knowledge of laptops is exceptionally low, so I was wondering if anyone here knows what I should look for?

Just some side notes:

A) In my introductory sentence, I pointed out that I live in England and that was completely out of context. The reason I said it was because If you live in the United States and you know of a really good American laptop maker, then thats great but it wont really be helpful to me back here in the UK.

B) I want to get a solid 30 fps, minimum. Graphics + Performance ftw.

C) I dont want to buy an alienware. They have a bad habit of luring you in with a seemingly cheap purchase, and then making you pay triple the original cost to get decent speccs.

D) You get brownie points if you find a laptop that can play Deus Ex: Human revoloution :)

I know this is a lot to ask, but I don't know much about laptops and I just wanna be able to play my more detailed games when I'm away. I hate relying on my desktop for everything. Also, considering that I'm gonna be throwing a lot of money at this, I don't want to get ripped off by a CERTAIN PC STORE...AGAIN!!!!

Thanks to anyone who responds, normally in threads like these, I don't get to thank everyone.

Make sure whatever you get has a dedicated graphics card.

http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCategory.aspx?SubCategory=32&name=Laptops-Notebooks

is a good place to start.

This is what I have. Inspiron 1545. I looked it up and it fulfills a bunch of the requirements for human revolution, but I'm not a computer expert.

...have you considered this? It's super overkill though. but it will run you 1800 US dollars and most people's pockets aren't that deep.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834230103

but on the bright side it looks bad-ass and it's large so you can use it as a blunt weapon.

Most laptops are bad for gaming, partly for power issues, partly for expense.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834115990 for $680 US. The site does not ship internationally, but it can give you an idea as to specifications. Plus you can look up the model number: AS7741G-6426.

That laptop is a good one, and it should be able to play Human Revolution, but not on the highest settings. A laptop that could do that would probably be around $2000 US. However, laptops really aren't meant for heavy gaming. Any laptop that you are looking to play games on should have a dedicated video card, and this one does.

I haven't got much knowledge of laptops, but are you sure I can't convince you to get a desktop?!? D:

My current PC can handle current games on at least high, and I have spent £300 initially on it and about £100 on a new graphics card a year ago. For just £400 this has kept me going for about 3 or 4 years, and runs everything perfectly, and from what I have seen with laptops you will get about half this performance for the same price. I guess if you need a laptop for the convenience, you need a laptop, but you get so much more bang for your buck with desktops.

I have a desktop, and it is awesome! The reason i want a laptop is so that i can play some of my more graphically demanding games when i'm away from home, which is quite often :(

Aah i see, I'm probably going to be doing this next year when I'm at uni because my desktop will only be at uni or at home, and I NEED to be able to play League of Legends at either of them xD.
I still think gaming laptops need to go a long way before they will replace desktops completely for me though, the price difference for the same specs is insane.

I'd just to research on the graphics cards to be honest, because laptop GPUs are kinda different to your standard desktop ones, and the majority of them are integrated to save space in the laptop. The RAM and processors still speak for themselves, so it's down to the GPU normally with this sort of stuff, look for reviews etc. online.

What we really need is a budget that you have and how much are willing to spend. You also need to realise(which you all ready have) is that laptops are crap for gaming and will have various problems(low battery, cost, most graphics cards are soldered into them).

Laptops probably arent want you want if you want a dedicated gaming machine, desktops tend to be more powerful for it, but harder to get around.

I'm using this right now;

Packard Bell TK81-SB-201NL- AMD N970

AMD Phenom II X4 N970 Quad Core 2.2GHz,
6144MB DDRR3 RAM,
500GB SATA HDD,
39.624 cm (15.6 ") TFT 1366 x 768,
AMD Radeon HD6650M,
Wi-Fi,
Ethernet,
Webcam 1.3MP,
Windows 7 Home Premium

It cost me 500 euros new, but I've only got it for three weeks, so I can't really comment on reliability, but it's capable of playing Shogun 2: total war on max settings, deus ex: HR shouldn't be too much of a problem. Haven't tried it yet though.

But they don't ship it(anymore), so if you want it, you'll have to make the trip across the channel to the Netherlands.

If you want to play games avoid a laptop, I know they look all nice and that but they are not built for games unless you have a very very large budget.

A good desktop is far cheaper to make into a gaming machine, I used www.cyberpowersystems.co.uk for my computer it cost me £750 with a new monitor and it's a beast for running games.

My Asus G73 ran it maxed out. It cost me 1100 dollars early this year so I would imagine it would be less now. Really, people have this wild idea of the prices solid gaming laptops because a few companies charge a premium for it. When it comes to laptop you have to be prepared to pay more for the mobility of it, whether or not that's worth it depends largely on the person.

I, for example, take my computer to work every day and just play games nearly 8-5. Not everyone enjoys this luxury and in fact, if I didn't have the job I might not have got the laptop I have.

Quick question, how much are you willing to spend?

EDIT:I use a slightly different model than this one, Mine has a better Graphics Card:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-Notebook-i5-480M-Processor-2-66GHz/dp/B004ISKZD2

Got it for about £600 from PC World.

And if you're wondering about the gaming possibilities of the Graphics Card (GT 540M):
