But if this were possible wouldn't we have got the messages from our future selves already, telling us not to do stupid stuff or to take the opportunity when it presented itself?

I wonder if this theory was sent to them from the future . . .

In any case, I just can't get over the fact that the top physicists in the world are studying something called a "Higgs sniglet". That just sounds silly, and it's fun to say XD

Part of me doesn't like the sound of this. Personally I'd rather leave time travel to The Doctor.

At least we're not gonna send anyone through it to mess up history.

sending anything can get the same result ....
if i send a message to say 1937 and tell them .. kill this Hitler fellow , hes a douche in the making. the entire earth will change.

time travel is just a big ass paradox , also if this is a potential time machine in Theory the fact that we have no messages from the future at this very moment proves we dont invent a time machine ever...
Well to be able to send messages you might need a machine that can recieve them. This would explain why we haven't sent messages back in time yet as we can only send them back to the point when we first created the machine.

Not possible. If it was, we'd have been seeing mysterious messages appearing everywhere for the last however-many-years.

Time Travel is more complicated than the classic "I can go back and watch the past in person" assumption. It doesn't work that way, the past is inviolate.

Agreed if time travel were possible we would know becuase time travelers would be here.
No, because we could logically only encounter time travelers after the first successful attempt at traveling through time.
That is, assuming time is linear.
I'll just stop now before I start bleeding from my ears.

They are wrong in saying that it does not have any paradoxes. If we send a message to the past, that says, "kill baby Hitler" then our time line would be forever different.

Also, as Carl Sagan once said, it is almost certain that time travel cannot exist. If time travel were possible we would have been visited by a future person already detailing how to make such a machine, or what to look out for. The same can be said about the messages. If this really is possible, then how come we haven't got messages yet? All they have to say is, ok, lets set up a camera to capture the messages in this ONE spot, forever. It will ALWAYS be in THIS spot at exactly 12 midnight from NOW ON. Then all they would have to do, is set up that camera, and wait for the future people to send a message to that spot. Tickle me retarded, but this isn't possible.
Actually i remember watching a documentary more than a year ago, detailing how time travel is theoretically possible by creating a loop in time, this however would mean be can only travel as far back as when the machine was first turned on.

Or they made it and decided not to use it, Or sent a letter to someone a year from now, OR they sent a letter and no one ever got it or just threw it out.... Just throwing those out there lol

we haven't got the technology to receive said message. Remember this works on the principal that we could detect theoretical particles.

I remember my physics tearcher talking about the LHC all that time when I was in sixth form and kept on saying that it was deleyed by a part the that the americans didnt build properly, which delayed it by 2 years or somthing. Then all the fools saying it would make a black hole that would kill us all. There is not enough energy in the LHC for such things and the tiny black hole that may be produced would consume itself in mili-seconds. Bloody conspiracy theorists that know nothing of the reality of physics.

No no no no no! Leave time travel alone! If the Prince of Persia Sands of Time trilogy (or any sci-fi you care to name for that matter) has taught us anything it's that time travel causes far more problems than it solves.

If they can send a message then wouldn't they need the equipment necessary to read it?...in that case that means the LHC of the future can send back messages to itself and that means that maybe the future has been waiting for us to invent the way to receive the messages?
This was exactly what i was thinking. We would need the working LHC to get the messages so that means future us is waiting for past us to make it. but it would already be made so they would be getting messages back and forth and...*sigh* paradox achieved brain does not compute

While humanity may never get an actual time machine, just having a time "mailbox" might not be so bad, as long as we can keep it free of spam.
