Used to play Vampire: the Masquerade LARPs in my early adulthood, those were the days when V:tM was the big thing and signficantly helped me in my social interactions. Groups were easy to find, some were advertised on bulletin boards, but you'd usually find the same people everywhere you go.
Ironically, LARPing made me stop being a nerd. How? I saw how some of them were basement-dwelling, no-getting-laid, red bull-chugging, WoW-obsessing, fugly wankers, I looked myself in the mirror and said "that will never be me". Took me years of self-work, but now random girls tuck their numbers inside my jeans' pockets.
But even today, with my nerd past behind me, I'd still LARP in a good Camarilla-based Vampire game because, with mature people who understand the politics behind the game, it's still shitloads of fun.
