As the title says, i'm going to buy a new mouse since my current one decided I didn't need the middle mouse button anymore. My question is, which mouse is better for gaming, optical or laser? I play a bit of everything, from FPS's to RTS's, third person games, etc.

I use a pretty cheap Microsoft wireless laser mouse at the moment and it serves me right. Not sure how it compares to optical though. Sorry :(

Mine is a laser mouse my sister got from an old boyfriend and never used. It works well enough.

Laser, If you can get one that lets change the DPI like the logitech gaming mouse (G9 iirc) go for it.

The difference between optical and laser is accuracy, laser also tends to have a higher DPI.

I use a Logitech Trackman, I find it much better for things like quick turning if I can just flick my thumb to spin my view around.

I use an optical Microsoft one that cost me about £20. Miraculously it hasnt RRoD'ed once.

Bad joke, i know.

In all seriousness the mouse does work. The only problem was getting it out of that fucking indestructable blister packaging.

I'd go with the laser, if nothing else than just for the lower amount of wear and tear, and not having to listen to the damned ball

I go for rugged reliability because it has to survive my bookbag and my general ineptitude at not breaking mice. 5-6 year old IBM wired optical mouse for me :D

optical and laser are the same thing.

Seriously both use the refraction of a coherent light source to tack movement.

for gaming get a variable DPi mouse like a G5 from Logitec or a razor.
