Lately I have been getting restless with new releases. They all seem to be the same run from chest high wall to next, bit of shooty shooty and on to the next conventiantly placed wall. There doesn't seem to be much difference between games at the moment, either they play like explained above or are just a clone of their predecessor.

So I'm asking, when was the last time you played a game and thought 'Wow! This is really good, I'm surprised noone has made a game like this before'?

For me it was Bioshock, I loved the way it transformed a linear FPS into an atmospheric story-driven game with a hint of horror.

There's this text based rpg game from a small developer called Greydog Software, It's called Comic Book Hero: The Greatest Cape. It's the only game where I've actually felt like I was playing as a superhero. Having to worry about my hero's identity, social and romantic life, his very happiness, all while protecting the city, nay, the universe he lives in. Watching as he becomes more loved or hated by the people he saves. Meeting, collaborating, teaming up with other heroes in the game. Stopping random crimes, fighting villains, earning a new nemesis. And knowing that at any given time, anyone in the world can fall to tragedy and die. And one of the best parts? It's completely moddable. Right now? I'm playing as my own created Superhero in the Marvel universe. I'm fighting beside heroes such as Spiderman, Captain America, and Iron Man! Hell, I'm an Avenger! It's a great game, one of the most impressive that I've ever played.
