It has been getting pretty poor reviews, but I haven't played it. Main issues I keep hearing:
Poor framerate that occasionally stutters during big battles.
Lots of graphical glitches like texture pop-ups and clipping.
Stupid design choices with the combat system, like making you unable to select specific attacks. You merely choose from a list of general options and let the game dictate what attacks or abilities the characters actually use.
Even though Square tried to be "edgy and mature" to create an RPG "aimed at adults" by adding a lot of gore, it is still the same old story about a reluctant pre-teen forced to become a hero, and a poorly written version of the cliched story at that.
Basically, while it tries some new things, it still feels like "more of the same," in addition to the stability issues.
