As the decade draws to a close, I have to ask, what events of the past 10 years are most significant to you. It could be anything, from politics, sports, world events, gaming, movies, television, anything at all. Be as nostalgic as you want.

Most important to me is ISW.
Nothing would be the same for me without it.
well, you asked, you got an answer.

The Iraq war will be remembered, 911 and the recession.

Such a wonderful decade indeed.

Better things will be remembered in about 20 years time when we have to attach some significance to the 00's so we don't feel left out.

Well let's see...

On the plus side of things:
I finished school (Both highschool and college), with honors for college.
I helped launch two radio stations (That are both still alive and kicking!)
I got a great job in my career.
I met, fell in love with, and married my beautiful wife!
I found, joined, and became a MOD for the Escapist!
I got my Xbox 360.
I became an uncle 7 times over.
I moved to a great new city with relative ease, and even found a great church after only one look! That was sweet.

On the down side of things:
A few family members passed away.
I got expelled from my first college experience after what they called 'computer hacking'. I appealed, though, and they let me back in.
But then I failed out of my first college experience after a pretty big bout with depression (Didn't see that one coming, eh?).

That's it. Not a lot of bad things happened to me these past 10 years, and I have a heck of a lot to be thankful for.

EDIT: Well if we're talking about world events, then I'd say 9/11 is the only one that really struck me the most.

Honestly, I can't really tell what was really significant this decade - afterall, its the only full decade that I can properly recall (I can't recall all the 90's, I was born then!)

...damn I feel old, I can remember a whole decade...

personally? Its been quite an eventful decade:

I got my first (possibly last) girlfriend, and broke up with her
I learnt the suffering of losing someone
I've grown much more mature
I've found my greatest passion and dream
I've seen my cousins grow at astounding rates

A think theres probably a few other things in there...

On a global scale though, only time will tell what is remembered and what is not. I REALLY hope Lady Gaga isn't remembered, though.

Ninja'd by a year goddammit. I was actually planning to propose an Escapist Community Project known only in my head as "Decade in Review" (my definition of "decade" in this context is 2000-2010, though technically that's 11 years) for next year. I was gonna present it to you guys next year. Hmmm... Better dust off the ole time machine to tell my future self that someone will ninja me and have future self tell past self to propose the project. Wonder if there'll be any takers though.

Well... a Tsunami wiped out roughly half a million people on Boxing day 2004, although no one will ever know how many people actually died.

9/11 happened... plunging Afghanistan and Pakistan into war for the umpteenth time, Iraq happened again, some bugger blew up a chunk of Madrid, some other buggers blew up a chunk of London, some other other buggers blew up chunks of Mumbai, some other other other buggers gunned down almost a whole school in russia and whole lot besides.

On the other hand, Great Britain started doing well in sports again, 2 Ashes, One Rugby World cup, 2 Formula 1 titles, 3 world Superbike titles, 1 WRC title, 3mtb downhill titles, 106 Olympic medals and a whole pile of other stuff. Kind of pales in comparison to all the violence and death, but it's a nice distraction.

More importantly
At the beginning of the decade this little mod called Counter Strike started cropping up on mod sites the world over...

Well, Obama's election is the only thing that really stands out...

The past decades been pretty bland actually. Oh, and the Iraq war of course.

Good:
I can say that I was alive at the turn of the millenium
Confirmation (for those who don't know and are curious, this is a Catholic thing. For those who now want to start some kind of religous debate...don't)
First girlfriend (the end wasn't so nice, but still a good experience overall)
Drivers License/First Car
Met many good friends (hopefully, lifetime friends)
I graduated from high school and got a good scholarship at a university
Witnessed the election of the first black president of the US. (Whether or not you agree with the politics, any American should be proud to have been around for this event!)

Bad:
9/11
War in Iraq
Recession
A friend's death
A teacher's death

This was the decade of suck for politics. With respect to President New Guy, there just hasn't been enough done in this decade to redeem us from the Monkey-Faced Cowboy. I had a number of personal downers as well, though not everything went bad. I'm just disappointed because there's this big ole' picture in life that everyone keeps smearing jam on and ruining. I can manage my microcosm well enough, no problem, but the macro-space of life just isn't in good condition right now.

Well, my dad died. that was a bummer.

But I did go to college! ...and now find myself massively indebted to shadowy bank types.

But i learned to drive! ... and now have spent thousands of dollars maintaining the shitty cars that i was just poor enough to afford.

But I... ugh. fuck this. The '10s owe me some serious karmic reciprocity.

My decade has been filled with studies. Also, lots of good memories form backpacking around Europe. Lots of people close to me have died. A decade of ups and downs, more than the one before this.

Of the BIG things I have to say I was worried when September 11th hit, I was fresh out of the military, there was a chance I had to go to Afghanistan. Luckily it didn't happen.
