Late to the Game

Maybe it's just me but I seem to find that I come to certain series' long after they've been started. Wether it's for lack of extra cash, not hearing about it or not believing its worth my time there are several reasons I don't jump on the bandwagon of a popular or cult favorite gaming series.
I can't be the only one that does this. So let's give a go: List a game series that you came late to, which entry in the series brought you into it, and (if you feel like it) what took so long?

There are a few requirements:
1. There must be multiple entries in the franchise.
2. You either got into the series because of a sequel or you didn't play the first entry until a year after it came out.
3. You actually enjoyed the series after you got into it.

Because of these rules there should be a few on your lists that are a given (at least for us younger gamers). I mean, I wasn't even ALIVE when the original Legend of Zelda came out in 1987.

Legend of Zelda = Ocarina of Time
Tales of Series = Tales of Symphonia
Metroid = Metroid Fusion
Punch-Out! = Punch-Out! Wii
Soul Calibur = Soul Calibur 2
Devil May Cry = Devil May Cry
God of War = God of War 2
half-life = half-life 2
Star Fox = Star Fox 64
Silent Hill = Silent Hill 2
Street Fighter = Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike
Star Ocean = 'Till the End of Time
Sonic = Sonic 2
Metal Gear = Metal Gear Solid 2

I know there are more, but I cant think of any right now.

I've played all the Soul Caliburs and the Metal Gear Solids, but not Soul Edge or Metal Gear 1/2, so I guess they count. I was born a year after Sonic 1 came out, but somehow played that series in order.

Metroid: I played Prime, never bought zero mission, so can't use the disc to play the original(Goddamnit nintendo stop pulling this shit!)

The Wild Arms series,I picked up Wild Arms 3 for $4.99, the only reason I passed it and the series was that I'm kinda stupid that way

Legend of Zelda I entered at LttP because I wasn't born when the original 2 were released and never had a NES(started with an SNES)

I first experienced Ratchet and Clank when I got Tools of Destruction, and the first Call of Duty I played was COD 4.
