Anyone know what the size of the original install for the game is on the Xbox 1? For I could see the problem having to do with the game thinking it needs to download the entire game again because something is corrupt because of a key file being updated.

I was gonna post just "hahaha, haha, ahhahaahaha, haha, ha, hahaha" etc. but then I realised that Ubisoft still sold a stupid amount of fucking copies. I hope they aren't breaking even at least, otherwise they will never learn. If they keep making money for releasing games that first year game design students can optimize better then guess what? AC: Victory will be the same glitchy fucking atrocity.

Yes I am bitter, used to be my favourite god damn series and now its less exciting than Medal of Honour.

There's probably one competent person at Ubisoft whose life is a living hell.

Ubisoft Twat: "Hey so we're going to tell everyone that we can't put women into Unity"
Competent Person: "What? That's a stupid idea, no one will fall for that"
Ubisoft Twat: "Yeah, they didn't fall for that"

UT: "Hey so we're going to tell everyone that we put a woman in the Rainbow Six: Siege trailer so that you'll want to protect her more"
CP: "Remember the thing with the women in Unity?"
UT: "So we told people and they were pissed off"
CP: "Fuck's sake"

UT: "Hey so Unity isn't working properly yet"
CP: "So have we been told to push the release date back?"
UT: "What? Are you mad? Of course not, we'll just release it anyway!"
CP: "I'm not sure-"
UT: "So we released it and people were pissed off again"
CP: "I am surrounded by cretins"

UT: "Hey so we released a patch for Unity"
CP: "Oh good, maybe people will-"
UT: "Oh hahaha whoops it's accidentally 40GB for Xbox One"
CP: *Sobs*

I wonder what'll happen next. Maybe the next patch will simply install a console melting supervirus that's tranmittable to humans.

Holy fuck.

This is exactly what I was thinking. This is patch 4 and it's 6.7 GB???!! I knew the game was broken but holy shit I can't believe there was 6.7 more GB worth of fixing to be done after 3 prior patches. Damn Ubisoft.

Can someone explain to me how this could happen? How does downloading one patch after another to become larger? Is it filled with junk data?

How the actual hell did Ubisoft do it this time?

But, how the hell is that possible? To turn a 7 GB download into a 40 GB one?
I thought I knew everything about computers, but this just baffles me...
I have a theory, but it only depends if something else is in the patch. There may be some sound files inside the patch itself, and Ubisoft didn't compress them when they made the Xbox One patch. Hell, when you see how big uncompressed audio files can get, it adds up to be sure. That of course is depending on if this patch has sound files to begin with, and if there aren't any then there goes my only rational explanation.
My theory's much simpler and one that the article gives credence to - the Xbox version of the patch redownloads the entire game as opposed to only the necessary patch files, which would help explain why uninstalling, then reinstalling the game works around the issue. Nevertheless....

Jimminy Cricket on a flaming chariot, how the flying fuck did they make this goof in the first place? Regardless of if my theory is right or not, a patch mysteriously increasing exponentially in size for unknown reasons by even the creators is something I've NEVER heard of happening before, even from half-assed indie titles. With Unity's disastrously buggy launch that puts BF4 to shame, the need for a nearly 7GB patch after 3 previous patches jut to fix all the bugs, and now this... I have to wonder if there even is a QA team for this game. If there is, Ubi must be pulling a Sonic '06 and ignoring the crap out of them or something.

Seriously, how does this even happen, especially from a AAA publisher and title?

Captcha: "i'm only human" Captcha's scaring me on two fronts here.

I've never seen a performer pull that off so I commend Ubisoft on innovating a new move.
Its not quite credible as a finisher, but it makes a lovely set up move.

I was going to type almost the same thing.

AT 6.7GB, that patch is embarrassingly large especially for the fourth one. Lots of people in the States have 250GB data caps...not only have Ubisoft's customers paid $60 for a PoS game, but many have devoted a large portion of their internet for the month letting Ubi faff about pretending to fix it.
And it only makes it worse for people outside the US with shittier internet. I've only got 100GB (and 50 of that is only usable between 2am and 8am). I'm very glad I didn't get Unity.

Heh, no wonder why Ubisoft leaked Victory, Unity is just such a huge fuck up they're trying to make people look away from it.

Loved this series, all of the games, and then Unity came out and was just shit, and Rogue, the game that was less marketed and seemingly less cared about just ended up being waaaay better. Now getting on topic, why the fuck is the patch 6.7gb? Are they shipping half the DLC files with the patch so that it will be easier for some reason? Damn it Ubisoft you are shoveling dirt onto a potential gold mine.

Huh? But outside the US tend to have better internet (except if you live in Canada).

How do you "accidentally" 40gigs? seriously i want to know the technical details of how a 7gig file turns into a 40gig one and only for one console

wow. who knows. then for the pc the patch will be also 40gb big or even more. im glad i didnt buy this game and got my self alien isolation. at least there i havent noticed any major bugs. some minor glitches like the aliens head was suddenly inside the locker i was hiding in. good thing nothing happened and it walked away.
ubi should fix first watch dogs. im still having constant freezing wile playing and thats very unacceptable. so yeah, i think i keep my fingers off unity for a long time. which suits me fine. there are other games im looking forward to.

40 gig patches? hows that 500gb is enough for everything going again? hehe

eve at the intended size - 6.7 gb thats ungodly amount of data for the path. what are they replacing entire engine or something? if you need to replace this much its clear that you should not have released it.

ITs easy to inflate file size, altrough how they accidentaly 33gb and didnt doublecheck is beyond me. you can make compressed data actually take more if you force libraries that dont fit the data, but not to that size. you can also easily generate a shitton of multi-gigabyte logs almost instantly nowadays. they will be full of shit noone cares about you it will take space.

and of course knowing Ubisoft they probably just rared somones porn collection with it by accident.

But then its really your fault for still having datacaps after aboluision of dialup. (wait, right, you still got dialup running too in some places). Datacaps only exist if costumers tolerate shitty ISP price gouging.

With exception of crazy land (Australia) there is no such thing as "outside the US with shittier internet"

And here I thought that the certainty of the slow fading of the universe was depressing.
I mean, it still is, but these news come really close to surpassing that.

Thought I got this post out earlier, but I didn't so clarification for people.

The patch isn't 40 gigs. The bug is that the game downloads the whole game instead of downloading the single patch. That's why the workaround amuses me. The workaround is to uninstall the game, then reinstall it, then redownload the earlier patches and your new patch will be the correct size.

Sure you save on data caps, but its such a ridiculous workaround that I can't help but be amused.

There are some people with an even worse deal than that as well. ^^
I've got a datacap of 20GB per month and last year they tried to "upgrade" it silently to hardcap.
As you might imagine, I did not take that well. I finally got it reverted to just a softcap.
Effective downspeed after softcap? 24KB/s.

..
6.7 gigs..for a patch...wow. Is everything uncompressed today? for that slight improvement nobody really notices?
Or are games really that much bigger and contain more content than yesteryear's games?

This whole saga has been like something out of Douglas Adams or Terry Gilliam, a dark comedy with a farcical plot spiraling out of control down into a series of epic, cringeworthy screwups.

A 6.7 GB patch in the first place (and not even the first patch this preposterous game has had) is bad enough, but having it accidentally convince the XBoned that it's 40 GB, and no one caught that before it went out? I didn't know it was possible to make this situation funnier or sadder.

This whole situation is your fault. You big dummy fanboys that are buying Pre-order games with season passes. Video games should come with the stock market warnings "previous performance does not guarantee future results". And Yes I'm laughing in you FACE!
