Lay-Offs Confirmed for Hitman Developer

Io Interactive, the developer of the Kane & Lynch [http://www.amazon.com/Hitman-Trilogy-Silent-Assassins-Contracts-Pc/dp/B000QSVMSK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1278950396&sr=1-1] games has had to lay off an undisclosed number of staff members.

The exact number of staff members let go remain undisclosed, but some reports suggest that it could be as many as 35 out of Io's approximately 200 strong work force. A statement from Io general manager Niels Jorgenson explained that the cuts were necessary to keep Io competitive.

"Every studio has to take decisions to ensure it is operating effectively as projects start up and ramp down. IO Interactive has assessed the internal and external resources needed to support its pipeline and this has led to organizational changes which will include the loss of some roles at the studio. We believe that this decision will make IO continue to deliver great games and add momentum to our operations. We would like to thank all employees affected for their contribution and efforts and wish them well in their future careers."

From all of us here at The Escapist, we hope those affected by the cuts are able to get back on their feet soon.

That's a shame! Hope those guys manage to find something new. Also, I hope this doesn't mean we won't be getting a new hitman sometime soon....

Well given their expirience they'll probably get into some mercenary work in no time flat, or maybe high profile assassinations. But in all seriousness, "a bus load of employees" is starting to look as not much of an exageration.

Let 'em rot.

Blood Money was praised by all my friends...and it was shit. Kane & Lynch had that kick ass Fragile Alliance MP, though.

Wait, seriously? I own all the Hitman games, and while Silent Assassin is a classic and Contracts had some very interesting (and disturbing) segments, Blood Money is hands down their best entry in the series. I'm going to guess you never played any of the other Hitman games then?
