*faint choking sounds*

So I'll just go off and try to find someway to force DX12 into Win 7...maybe by some sort of blood-magic or the like.

Or I could just visit Steam and pray to GabeN that SteamOS will deliver us from this horrendous-looking shite.

Or I might try get into Linux :X

Ditto. It is an over-crowded mess of nonsense. Everything looks incredibly clunky.

Of course, naturally, we'll have to wait and see what's really going on, but so far...no good.

Well done Microsoft, it looks like they are trying to ship even more bloatware with the next Windows installment.
Don't gett me started on the taskbar, never expected them to make it this cluttered.

And you hear this from someone who uses Windows 8.

Ohhh, I am sad. The title, to me, suggested that Windows 10 might include an xBox emulator. :(
Same, would have liked to play Sunset Overdrive, but I know xbox not getting the exclusive that I want, i.e. Japanese developers, as everything from Western developer that I want is usually on PC.

Even more stuff to remove from windows using a pre-install wizard of some sort !

They should do a stripped down version of windows IMO with all the ability of ultimate ( CPU's ram and so on) but with all apps disabled and the executables and unused library removed from the base install. All they give you with it is the browser choice screen, notepad and the command prompt and thats it. everything else you could then chose to install from the Microsoft store if you wanted, leave the default there for most people but make this an option. I remember the good old days when you had a 'minimal' install option for windows 95.

So yeah basically microsoft windows arch linux edition :p. A version of windows that is user-centric and not hold your hand , i would even pay extra for this version.

Not to mention, shit you search for, even when innocuous can sound strange out of context. I'd rather everyone around me not think I was a potential axe murderer, rapist, etc just because I had a wikipedia moment and wanted to learn more about a subject.

Also, I like to look at porn when I'm on airplanes. Asking Cortana to show me Backdoor Sluts 9 is just asking for trouble.

Its a programming thing, a lot of older programs look for Versions of Windows by says Windows9X meaning 95,98 and its ilk. So a lot of programs will think that Windows 9 is one of the old OS versions with a 9 in.

OT: I look forward to seeing how badly Microsoft can fuck up this time, they will one day grasp the concept that people don't give a shit about their gimmics and want an OS that is easy to use, not a resource hog and not full of more bugs than IE7.

It's difficult to express in words how few fucks I give about all this pointless bloatware. I'm not interested in your "ecosystem" Microsoft, I'm not going to buy a Windows Phone and an XBone and a fucking toaster that announces when it's finished making toast in Steve Ballmer's voice or whatever the fuck your next crazy, over-engineered, under-performing pile of junk is just because I use Windows on my PC(literally only because I can't be arsed faffing about with gaming on Linux). All I care about is whether or not you put out an OS that's actually designed around the platform I fucking bought it for without any extraneous tabletised bullshit like multicoloured nursery school playtime fun tiles.

I genuinely cannot grasp how it's possible for them to so fundamentally misunderstand what their customers actually want from them.
Hmm my guess, - like Google, Facebook and others, Microsoft views their customers as the product with some monetization thrown in.

I am beta testing Windows 10 right now and so far it is not much of a shift from Windows 8.1

Also I am testing Steam OS - public beta, it has gotten some small consistent updates but nothing exciting yet.

I wish somehow we could have a core OS that gets work done as well as a lean fast OS for playing games on.

So much this. I want my operating system to, you know, allow me to operate the system. If I want more functionality than that well that's the whole point of software. If MS want to put out Cortana on Windows, or offer xbox hookups, or give people the option of reskinning their desktop to match their tablet; cool, more power to them, if it's good I might even use it myself, but it should be the user's choice not theirs. The actual core OS should be as stripped down as possible while still providing the necessary functionality - if you want to bundle all your shite together do what you used to do and keep that crap in the prebuilt retail PC market.

Right now it's still more hassle to game using Linux than it is to put up with Microsoft's BS, but if they keep doubling down on this idiotic "ecosystem" rubbish by the time Windows 7 support ends, folk'd be as well just switching because stripping away the bloat and reskinning the UI to something rational for mouse & keyboard input won't be significantly more work than setting up one of the easier Linux distros.

Man, there's a lot of misinformed comments here...

I would recommend you just go grab of copy of Windows 10 and try it. From my experience so far it's the next OS I'll be using (currently on Win7, cos Win8 for a desktop is gross).

There is a clear move away from the touch screen world of Win8.1 to a Desktop GUI that IMO is closer to Win7 than Win8. I'm even keen to start using it at work.

Additionally, It's Windows, so you know you can just remove features and applications like you've always been able to right?

And contrary to the zealous speculation happening, I've found the GUI to be clean and uncluttered, equal to Windows 7 but with more features you'll actually use. Like multiple work spaces, quarter screen window snapping and some other features I'm probably forgetting.

Metro apps now open in proper windows, on the normal desktop.

And probably heaps of other stuff.....

As person who dislikes Windows 8, Windows 10 is looking good.

Porn is at least excusable. i searched for nazi propaganda for a youtube comment debate yesterday. luckily my 5 work colleagues did not have to listen to me doing so.

If there is a clear move away they fail completely at showing it, since all the screenshots have metro interface.

And since when are you able to just remove default apps in windows 8 (not including hacking them away because lets face it its not what average user is capable of).

snapping is the first feature i turn off in windows 7, its VERY annoying. i want my window where i put it and how i put it, none of this snapping and resizing shit.

also quartering window means you loose capability of overlaying windows and at least in 8 it works only in fullscreen mode.

Though its great to know that useless apps now work in desktop mode.

Nope, I try to keep my desktop and task bar clean as well, and I'd imagine most tech savvy people would as well.
