Why whenever someone posts something stating "I don't like [game] because bla bla bla bla" someone will always get bent out of shape and yell at the person for it. This happens FAR TO OFTEN in reality too, and I never in my life understood it.

If someone came up to me and said "Sonic the Hedgehog is the worst character ever and I hope he never has another game made" I'd shrug at them and laugh, even though I've loved Sonic since I was a kid. It's their opinion and I can care less about it.

You post something like "I feel [game] doesn't have enough content for me to buy it." and people get pissed with you and have to insist to you that you are wrong and are an idiot for no reason.

Here's how I feel about this, you didn't make the game, so you have no reason to get upset in all honestly, but if you personally enjoyed the game then who cares if some idiot didn't like it? Just say "I thought the game was great and here's my reasons" but no, it always turns into a fight. I don't care to get into a fight over every little thing, if someone states an negative opinion about something, it's everyone's right to. As long as a reason is put after it, it really shouldn't become an issue.

How do you feel about this? Does someone mocking a game you like get on your nerves? Do you get the boxing gloves out? If not what does it take for you to get angry at a person mocking a game you like?

I'm genuinely curious here, I don't want any fights breaking out here, I apparently started a fight in another thread that I have no interest in continuing in any other topic.

Maybe you should learn to not care about people getting up in arms over games?

You asked how I felt.

I don't care. I bought a wii and all my friends bought a 360 so I get criticized all the time but I just don't care.

I'm asking why do people get up in arms, I want to know why, I honestly don't care what other people think about a game. Unless said person is considering buying the game to play online with me that'd be the only situation where I can say I'd care a bit.

Sometimes it can be joking, like "Oh you did not just say that!" But I know what you mean.

People usually only get mad when other people state their opinion as fact, or when they dispute fact.

If someone said, "Valve is a shit developer. There's no way anyone could like them" or "Doom did not shape the FPS genre. It was awful and no one played it" then people get pissed. These are FACTS, and sometimes the consensus is so overwhelming that one person's opinion could not change it. Valve is a very proflic developer, and DOOM did shape FPSs for years to come. I know this sounds bigheaded, but anyone who disagrees with this will be called an idiot. I'm all for having opinions, but some are so vastly in the wrong that it comes off as trolling.
Look in all honestly you could call Phantasy Star IV/Final Fantasy Tactics garbage with a list of reasons why,(2 of my most liked games) and my response would be "I enjoyed them because of bla bla bla" I'd have only responded with "you're an idiot " had you had no actual reason just saying "they're crappy games made by crappy companies". If that makes any sense haha.

I'm just curious on this because of how willing people are to get out the guns over simple opinions stated, even after the person says this is how they feel and not a fact etc.

Yes, you're right. Things can be hard facts that prove a point, but some people's minds will never be changed, which is fine. However, some people appear ignorant when defending something, like if they just keep saying "Nope, you're wrong, you're stupid, I'm not listening" with no supporting reasons. In which case, the arguers would just call each other idiots.

In a civil discussion, people should just learn to agree to disagree, but this is the internet, which is far from civil. I agree with you when you say people overreact WAY to much over such trivial things. If you find that you can't have a proper debate with an ignorant person, it's better to just ignore them and let them be.
I agree, people are too sensative and perhaps are just looking for a fight. The defense these games get is incredible, if only there was a good reason for it.

Just to rub it in, what if I were to state;

"I feel that [the upcoming game you're looking forward to] isn't worth 60 bucks, there's not enough length to it and there's not enough content for me to buy it, I'm saving up my money for [something else awesome]" what would your honest response be?

I usually don't care, unless the person says something completely ascenine or idiotic. But I think the best rememdy for an idiot is to let then keep being an idiot without trying to correct them.

I care solely about whether I think a game would be something I'd enjoy before deciding to buy it. You can extol the virtues of your favorite first-person shooter, JRPG, MMO, or console-style action game all day and all night, I'm going to smile and nod...and go back to playing the sorts of games that FPS, JRPG, MMO, and action-game junkies get bored with in five minutes.

The only time I ever care is when their reasons are dumbass ones, like parents. To many stories of GTA is bad and games are horrable because my kids are learning bad things from them.

How bought this, you suck at parenting and also theres a age 18+ RATING FOR A REASON. those people really tick me off.

You know, it's not technically a moral victory when you go off and make a thread about people getting uppity about opinions when your thread is, in fact, a response to a negative opinion.

Gosh. For someone who preaches about the right for everyone to have dissenting opinions you sure do take notice when others have one. Clearly, it's completely alright for you to state an irrational 'opinion', but it's nowhere near correct for someone to call you out on it.

I mean what.

Eh. Some people take things to seriously. Then again, I find it a good thing(in some ways) that they have something they like, and don't want people saying bad things about it.

Anyway, I see this way too many times(not just on here btw). If you really don't care, then don't look at the thread, don't talk to said person. You could ignore them, that helps.

I have turned not caring into an art-form just like I did with laziness.

People get mad at other people all the time and most of the reasons are so stupid you can't help but laugh. I don't care what people do. As long as no one gets hurt I am fine with most things.

I stated an opinion about a game and you got angry about it and called my opinion worthless after I made it clear that I didn't say this was a fact, and I even said it's fine for you to enjoy the game. Yes I said negative things about Left 4 Dead 2, all of it was clearly opinion based with me BLATANTLY admitting that it's how I felt and isn't a fact

Yet here you are harassing me yet again, let me put this out there in words you can understand because it's clear you don't read and even a topic based on it you don't see my point. I'm not looking for a victory you oaf, you're the one arguing and chasing what I feel about a game. If I don't like a game then it's my right to say my opinion, as is your right as well, did I twist your arm and force you to not buy it or agree?

No, so how about you find something better to do with your time than chasing me down try to make me agree with you and show me the error of my ways, I don't like Left 4 Dead 2, I have no problem with Valve but their latest game does not. I don't like Left 4 Dead 2, it's wonderful that you do but frankly I don't care nor do I need you telling me just how wrong my opinion is.

How can you not like a game that has not been released yet? Shouldn't you play a game first before deciding to make an opinion on it?

Also, if you really don't care why would you respond to his post and not just ignore him instead?

I think I can make a fairly good call by videos and reading on the game, it's not like I have dismissed it because I feel the content should be in the first one and it's not like I'm telling anyone to go by my judgement. Heck they could have genuinely have done a lot of good things for the sequel and it CAN be a great game.

But after seeing many videos it doesn't appeal to me, I have the way I feel about the game. I WILL play the demo when it comes out but honestly, with the economy down like it is I have to chose my games more carefully, there's 2 games I'm thinking of getting instead that interest me FAR more, and there's nothing wrong with that. (Borderlands and Dead Rising 2)

As to why I respond to him? That's a good question since he has this odd idea about I should think.
