Ok. So. Imma make a non-serious thread because I need to balance this shit out because the forum page looks like one huge ragey mess right now. I will always appear to brighten things up whenever this gets out of hand again. Like Batman

Give me some opinions on whether you like learning new characters/games or do you stick to what you're good at? Maybe learning just one character and sticking to it or coast by just being sort of average and not really bothering to learn one single thing to improve yourself because you can't admit you're not the best League player ever and for fuck's sake why do you never, ever buy wards?...

[sub][sub]Sorry off topic[/sub][/sub]

I love finding out all the little things. Sure you can learn the BnB combos but that's no fun!

I found out just now that BlazBlue's Mu-12's Origins ('s like a move where she pulls her swords around her as a barrier, knocking back anyone close to her) is the most rad move ever and is likely Mu-12's greatest asset towards not dying. It denied a Ragna's bullshit corner pressure every single time he tried without fail.WHAT?! That's just not possible. As in he was pressing his specials, I was barely blocking then suddenly "REORIGINS!" *flying Ragna* "ok... Let's see where this takes me"

The annoying thing with BB is how easy it can be to reset combos just by pressing buttons in the corner because it's hard to get out. You can hit the recover button, pop up then IMMEDIATELY get punched in the face again. If I had to pin down a flaw in the game's mechanics this would be it, I mean the corner is hazardous in any fighting game but the resets are legendary and easy to do in BB compared to something like UMVC3 because it has a safe recovery mechanic.

I played several matches with this one guy until I figured this out. I was getting destroyed then I curbstomped the last two rounds once I had this down. Think he was relying on Pick Ragna > Get to corner > press buttons > Inferno Dividah > win as his only game plan. NOPE! NOT ANYMORE!

It comes out so fast, literally instant I would assume and has a load of invincibility. It's practically a Burst and you can cancel almost every move you have into it. And you can use it in the air. AND it gives you space to set up Gun Fortress #501

So yeah, Learning is fun. All your old school teachers were right apparently. You know what isn't fun? Endless rage threads.

[sub][sub]Ok i'll stop now[/sub][/sub]

I really dont get much chance to practice anymore so what I usually do is just stick to my mains because they really need work most of the time but back in the day I learnt how to play the entire cast of SF2 Turbo quite effectively not pro standard of course but I knew what everyone was capable off and how to utilise and punish each character in general as well as quite a few specifics.

The last fighting game I really tried quite a few characters was SCV (as in tried to learn not just used for a few hours) mainly because I was pretty comfortable with Siegfried so wanted to mix it up so I tried Astaroth, Tira and Cervantes I was still pretty poor with them compared to Sieg (who I am probably rubbish with now as I havent played in months) but I learnt quite a few setups and combos which looked cool as hell when I landed them especially with Cervantes and Astaroth.

Usually I find my favourites and just stick with them but yes if I have time or am drawn to a large portion of the cast I will try and diversify as much as possible plus this really helps stop the game getting stale when playing for fun especially against my friends as most dont play these games they dont want me whuppin their asses over and over again with my (slightly) practiced team.

I must admit with the exception of Soul Calibur and SF 2 Turbo I have never been above what I would call average and in those I only got good because my friends played them as well and I much much prefer playing offline multiplayer to online. The only reason I realised I was above average in SC though was in Australia at an anime convention when I attracted a crowd of 20 or so people by playing SC3 and everyone wanted to challenge me lol actually its one of my fondest gaming memories I went undefeated except for the first match I played where I was re-acclimatising to the game after god knows how long of not playing (basically I was misjudging all the distances in this match). Yeah anyway seem to have gone off topic I suppose I put more into a game the stronger my competition is and ofc the more I like it and its characters.

Once I truly delve in I tend to focus more on one character or team but otherwise I just mix it up and if I feel truly comfortable with a character I focus on another and so on.

Oh and Persona 4 arena is out in only a few weeks now....finally I really hope I like the feel of that game because I love the characters plus it seems my two favourite (Mitsuru and Chie) are top tier hurray! gotta get Injustice sometime as well as well right im off to play some SCV.

I have recently been playing a lot of Injustice: Gods Among Us and I think NRS did a really good job making all characters play differently. I have put the majority of my time playing Green Arrow and getting my ass beat online (mainly cause of TERRIBLE lag) then I just go back to practice and manage to actually pull off some combos. As much as I do like the game though I would say it gets to a point where there is not much depth to it which does kinda suck.

captcha: don't be late, eerie cause I have an exam in 3 hours >_>

but i wanna complain about why people never buy wards...

I just go by which characters feel right, there are some characters whose playstyle just fits you.

Well in Skullgirls, I normally just play as Peacock and Ms. Fortune. However, after playing quite a bit with my nephews, I found how interesting playing as characters like Painwheel and Double are. So I might practice with them more.

The trouble I seem to have with Double though is the way she moves. She doesn't dash like most of the other characters, instead she hops over to where she needs to go, so she feels kinda clunky to control. However, I can get behind the fact she can pull off some pretty sweet combos ending with the item drop.

Probably the only character that I can't really seem to get a good grasp on is Parasoul. A lot of her attacks require me to hold one direction and then press the opposite directional button and a punch or kick button at the same time to do something like her napalm shot attack. I like to play with the D-pad, so I usually just end up jumping instead. Plus, like Double, she doesn't have a very good way to move across the screen. Although considering she has some pretty good ranged capabilities, I guess this isn't as big of an issue.

Still though, it was enjoyable to experiment with these different play styles while playing with my nephews.

In fighting games I just learn characters I like one by one. How do I choose character I like? Well, in Tekken 6 I started with Dragunov because he's Russian. After some time with him I've tried Jin, because he looks cool. Then Kazuya, because he's Jin's father. Then Lili because she's very beautiful. Then Asuka because she's Lili's rival. And so, one by one, I've more or less mastered 6 fighters. I always come up with stupid reasons to pick any particular fighter. In Dead or Alive 5+ I'm playing Christie because she's hot and voiced by Laura Bailey and Rig, because he's cool and voiced by Liam O'Brien.

As for Dota 2 after years and years of torturing myself with that game I've come up with about 10 heroes of different roles that I'm just good at.

I started playing Dragon Age a few days ago, and for the first time in my life, I'm playing as a character class other than the big, strong, damage-dealing thickie. I'm playing as an elven mage, and it's pretty interesting to try and unlearn a lot of ingrained habits. Most importantly, I'm trying to stop running towards all the enemies and thwacking them with my staff.

I generally stick to a playstyle that suits me.

In most games I will try out all the playstyles I can and settle down to perfect the one(s) that fit me.

In TF2 that's Sniping/Spying (Taking out key targets while avoiding confrontation)

In MMO's that's usually some form of necromancy (Death Knight in WoW, Shadowknight in EQ2, Pale Master in DDO, Undead summoning Mastermind in CoX and Necromancer in GW2) or alternatively a Sniper/Spy archetype (Rogue in WoW, Swashbuckler in EQ2, Ninja Spy in DDO, Dual Blades Scrapper in CoX, Engineer in WAR, Witch Hunter in WAR, Thief in GW2)

In Dota 2 I usually play an agility carry/semi-carry due to I like farming or going for ganks. Though I'm sometimes relegated to support because Pubs = 5 carries otherwise (That said, I tend to pick something like Lina and end up carrying the game. Carry Lina is best Lina.)

Whilst I could probably learn a new playstyle, I wouldn't enjoy it as much, so instead I set myself goals on how good I need to be able to play my preferred style (For example in TF2, try and dominate as many people as possible so they pick a counter to me. So far the best I've done is had the entire enemy team swap to Sniper to counter snipe me. It failed and my team won the game whilst everyone on the enemy team was being useless)

In TF2, I'm usually trying multiple playstyles at a time so I can keep up with the constantly changing situations in the round (i.e. Team needs a medic, need scout to look ahead, etc.)

In [Multiplayer] games, it's usually a good idea to have basic knowledge of the workings of most classes, even more so in competitive multiplayer.

Don't know how to counter a certain character or class. Play it. Think a certain character is overpowered because it's crushing you, play it. I remember playing LoL and I had issues against Veigar players, I played Veigar and discovered he was VERY squishy. I learned to counter him I had to either gank him, or hit him with a stun/silence before rushing in.

Not saying I'm good at LoL. I'm decent for the amount of games I have under my belt.

As for what I play, I tend to play something tanky with a fair amount of damage output. But I'll play nearly any class if it's fun. Though I will usually choose one to be my "Main" and I'll do my achievement/item hunting on it(In games where stuff like that is character based and not account based).

If I don't like that I'll usually play support or healer.

TF2: Heavy/Medic
WoW: Death Knight/Warrior/Druid/
GW2: Guardian/Warrior

Hell, I think the whole reason I mained a Death Knight in WoW was because it was the closest class WoW had to my DnD character (A Necromantic Knight)

I typically never stick with a single thing for too long. Once I get really good with a certain character or weapon I usually move on to something else, because it gets boring to win all the time. I'd rather play with a character/weapon/tactic that few people use, or which is underpowered just to see if I can.

Depends on the game. If I love the game, I'll try to find more characters, so I ended up learning quite a few in MVC2, but wasn't so enthralled with learning many characters in League of legends. I just play it to stay in contact with my friends, so I don't mind being singed over and over again.

BlazBlue is a middle ground. I try some characters, but I go back to Carl Clover every time.

Generally, I'll be a jack of all trades, but be REALLY invested in one area. Best example: My World of Tanks account. I have invested a fair amount of time into every vehicle type, but I'm REALLY into scouts. I love the SPEEEEEEEEEEEED.

Tech traps! Be careful of when and how you tech in new-school or "anime" fighters. Still, dealing with this stuff is a whole lot better than dealing with knockdowns in SFIV.

Anyway, I can never seem to settle on a single character. I tend to be a defensive player, but I do believe myself to be pretty well-rounded, so I am comfortable with most character archetypes. I play characters from both sides of the defensive-offensive spectrum. In SFIV, I play most comfortably with a defensive, zoning/spacing-oriented character like Guile, and I find the most enjoyment out of playing a pressure monster like Sakura.

Back when I spent wayyyy too much time playing video games, I managed to master all my Tekken characters (Tekken 5 DR for PSP, Tekken Lorded all of those suckers), nowadays I mainly stick to my main (Bryan Fury because Cyborg) and try to have some fun with the characters I like, but I don't really play all that much anymore...

+1 Rep to Carl players. I would LOVE to be able to play him even a little bit, good Carls are untouchable and his swag combos with Nirvana are so entertaining. I just lose Nirvana every time I try him and she is like 80% of his moveset.

I've hit the point where Mu has truly overtaken Makoto as my proper main. I still play both but I keep going back to Mu 100% of the time. I love her quotes as much as Makoto's even though they couldn't be any more different in tone. Her move names are so classy.

You can't get more classy than Divine Light of Punishment, Divine Wrath of the Heavens and especially Wisdom of the Divines.

Thinking of LoL characters, I can play anything but i've been relegated to support practically every game now. Thresh Prince or Gamer Girl 'til the end of time because lol premade bot.

I can only play Jayce top because he's FUNNY. The amount of shit he can just not give a fuck about is legendary. Xin Zhao trying to jump on me with his built in armour pen? (read: true damage because League of Balanced Champs) Get BACK son! I am FARMING! Some people are so rude I swear...

Annie mid because she's not hard to play and she has the best bear ever on her side. STUPID burst with Tibbers. Pro as Heck Guide to Annie: proc stun > Flash > Tibbers > Disintegrate > Incinerate > Ignite > follow up with another Disintegrate if they're somehow not dead. Works every time... Annie has the most descriptive move names y'know XD

Sometimes Katarina but rarrrgh she gets focused and dies too easily. God forbid they have a Galio T_T

J4 or Hecarim jungle, Nocturne on occasion. Hecarim confirmed as Broken Tier in S3. Burn My Spirit of Dread is OP as fuck mid/lategame.

Ezreal or queue dodge if I get to AD Carry and the other team picks him. I can play Caitlyn or Miss Broken but I love my Ezreal... Manliest Champion in the League. Yes Pantheon that includes you!
