To clarify for OP, today os the day Irish Leaving Cert Results are out, The results determine the courses in colleg you are eligible for, scores are calculated based on th results of your best 6 subjects. The verage student sits 7. Maximum score is 600 points. An A1 is the best possible grade(over 90%) and is worth 100 if the exam was honours level or 60 if it was ordinary level, then running down accordingly in 5%'s ie an A2 is 85%, B1 is 80. I sat mine two year ago and got 460 btw. also students must pass Irish or English and Maths or they do not pass, and a 3rd langauge is required for universities.

I didn't realise you had to learn an (almost) dead language to pass college. Nor that uni is free in Ireland; might move there later on.

The best thing is if you're not from here you don't need any Irish. But it's not really free, there are fees and obviously books, if you're doing Science you need your lab coat, dissection kit and stuff. However if you're a citizen of here of the EU you can get a means-tested grant, some people can get up to €7,000 a year towards college (which sounds like a lot until you realise that the cost of living here is so high).

Yeah but we in the UK HAVE to pay, unless you get a grant - but they only cover a small amount of he cost, that's why student debt is so high.

Yeah, met a girl from Scotland one night and she nearly had a fit when I told her.
