So I was thinking, what with the diverse range of interests and expertise on this forum, could we pool that knowledge and create a moderated thread in which pre-approved forum members post a short essay on a topic of their choosing.

The idea is that we could create a bank of expertise and informed conclusions which can then be reffered to in discussion. For example, say you are and expert in a particular philosopher and would like to prevent a brief paper on him/her or you a games devloper and would like to teach us about a particular development in gaming.

Then, when a topic arises in a thread we automatically have a series of expert opinions from informed individuals available to us. Additionally, if we have a problem with a discussion in a related area we have a list of forum memebrs who can be consulted and known for having informed opinions?

What do you think? An idea worth speaking to the mods about or just a waste of time?

I assume you won't be the expert in spelling/grammar. I kid i kid, this is quite a good idea but it would involve adding a whole new section to the forums that would constantly have to be moderated. And how would you determine who was an expert?

Sounds like a good idea. We could raise awarness of some important topics. It would have to be strictly regulated, though... almost like your lecture would have to be approved before you could post it.

Bad idea, i could easily tell people that i'm an expert in explosives despite only having knowledge of destroying deodorant cans.

I'm afraid to say that there will never be any types of threads not open to everyone. I've tried it with a different idea based on trying to get a good discussion going on some of the more hot button issues but at this point I'm sure it won't happen.

Decent idea it just won't happen.

This is an interesting question given that the primary demographic on this forum is teenage students.

I like the idea too, but...

Why not go to gamasutra and read the escapist news / feature postings, isn't that the inherent point of them? I am not sure there would be enough expertise in peripheral areas (say... I don't know.... biology) to warrant a moderated knowledge base on the site. Besides, isn't that Wikipedia?

Not shooting any ideas down here, just some questions to answer to clarify the concept.

Lectures? I'm pretty good at long-winded talking, if that can be classified as a lecture. Although I'm not much of an expert on anything. No, not even Rock Band.
