What happens to zombies infected who are infected for a very long time?

Maybe the infection takes its toll, and instead of being the fast running zombies they are, they slowly shamble, having a hard time even walking? This opens up a new game mode, Horde. The survivors have to escape from the oncoming horde. A huge amount of slow infected follow the survivors, and they have to get to safety. Adds a bit of a time mechanic in there, while pertaining to the zombie theme.

Yes? No? what do you think?

It'd just be too easy, since you can have grenade launchers and assault rifles. those weapons against the slow zombies would make the game incredibly easy.

If you watch the Common Infected, some of them just drop dead without you even having to attack. After seeing that, I don't think they have the time to get that bad.

This, basically. I mean if you were to have THOUSANDS of zombies at once, and you had limited ammo, space and weapons, then maybe.

That would just be an extended rolling crescendo, only with slow zombies. And that's the main problem. Think about how much easier the Parish bridge finale would be if all of the zombies were slow. Not only would this mode not add much to the game, but it would also provide little challenge.

heres something to add, every zombie that dies 2 new ones form

that would counter the easiness now wouldnt it.

Tanks should have grenade launchers and jockeys should be renamed wretches. Give the hunters revolvers and the witch a burst fire pistol. Chargers will get a shield and mace, mm I can smell the ratings.

OT: How about low health, weak guns, no health kits so the purpose is to hide. Loud noises like shooting and voice commands attract the horde.

It's already been 3 weeks and they hardly changed in a weeks time. How much more time do they need before they turn into that?

And ya, the slowly shuffling horde won't be fast enough to catch the survivors and with unlimited pistol ammunition they could just shoot them all before they even got close.

It would only work if the game were a lot more cramped. Thousands of slow moving zombies in a relatively wide area are easy to navigate around. Put the lot in a series of claustrophobic corridors and you have the real danger of rounding the corner and coming up against an unstoppable horde. Otherwise you just walk briskly away firing every so often.

They would have to rework a lot of the game. Especially the unlimited weapons.

If you only had certain weapons, say the basic shotgun, pistol (which goes off of ammo), and a melee weapon that is blunt (frying pan) that takes hits to get a kill with, and all the zombies require headshots or blows to the head, then that might make it possible.

Then if you had a constant stream of zombies coming from all sides, except from the path you are meant to take (which would have to be a very narrow margin) then if the survivors were substantially less physically capable (like taking two or three hits to kill) and then revives were made way more difficult (like taking much more time to conduct) or if they were removed, then that could be pretty difficult. And the zombies are always going come about five per bullet or shell the survivors are allotted, meaning that if a person gets 100 bullets per level, then at least 500 infected will eventually stream into the level per survivor. Then the safehouse doors should take an amount of time to get open, and to secure, so that players have to strategize for that, then the add on could probably work.

Wow my version sounds like a horrible idea.

Any game i can recall that had slow moving zombies that worked usually worked because the mechanics of the game were so clunky it made your character seem like he was dimensionally challenged (i'm looking at you resident evil). Left 4 Dead can only exist because of running zombies, anything that slows down the pace affects the game in a negative way. It's meant to be one big rush from begining to end.

What you want is a true survival horror game, which doesn't really suit multiplayer criteria.

No...slow zombies just don't really work in a game. Games run on action fuel, and slow does not have good entertainment per gallon.

shamblers would not work well in a game like L4D.

the shambler concept is built on the idea that the player doesn't engage the hoard, but rather tries their best to avoid it. this is usualy supported by having a few magazines worth of ammo on the player at any given time which further enforced the 'don't fight; evade' feeling the game was going for.

further more, from a medical perspective.
the 'infected' wouldn't become shamblers.
the infected in L4D have extreamly high metabolisms and hormonal levels ontop of their altered genetic code. this means they can absorb a lot of damage and still go on and possibly lose some vital organs and still continue on for a little while.

so long as proper sustinence is aquired by these people, be it through canablism or normal food consumption, they could very well be fast running zombies up until they die of hunger.

I thought those dead ones where just beaten up by the other ones. (for those who don't know, sometimes you'll see zombies bashing eachother up)

It could work if you were given one hit point limited ammo, and only head shots killed them.

If i wanted the zombies to be slow id play Resident Evil or something similar to be honest.
In L4D2, zombies running at you all at once as a team fucks your shit up.
