Left 4 Dead 2 Problems

Well, I didn't see my problem in Steam Support, so I decided to ask around the interwebs yet again. I've been having a problem with Left 4 Dead 2 for the past couple of months now. The game starts fine, but whenever I try and play anything, I get a flashing black screen with skipping sound effects. I've been told that this is because my computer isn't powerful enough to run the game, despite the fact that it ran perfectly fine (with occasional lag due to connection and such) for several months before this problem began occurring. Just to be safe, I installed this game on another computer, this one MUCH more powerful than what I normally play on. The game worked fine the first time I played it, but when I tried to play it a second time, the same exact thing happened (black flashing screen, skipping sound effects). Is there a fix for this? If not, will there be a patch? I really love Left 4 Dead 2, and it would be a shame if I was never able to play it again.

Try googling the problem. Or finding a technical forum to answer your question. I play games like that on xbox live so I can't really help you.

well, I've already searched Google, Steam Support, the Escapist, and I've contacted Valve.
none of those worked.

Have you tried verifying the game cache?

Run a defragment, or update your drivers. Preferably the latter, since that may be the real problem.

Have you tried posting in the Left4Dead 2 sub-forum in the steam forums? If it's a widespread problem someone there will easily be able to point you in the direction of a solution (after ridiculing you for not using the search bar).
