I am an avid L4D player, and have been considering purchasing the L4D2 recently. However, I live in Australia, and so only the low violence version is available to me, and after seeing the comparisons widely available on youtube, have had pause to go ahead.

My question is thus: is it still worth getting?

I played the demo, and although i did not really notice the lack of gore at first, I did so after a few playthroughs. The new maps and mobs interest me most, and i am aware that com dev'd maps are out there for L4D1. What are you opinions on the matter?

(in before haha suck crap aussie and all that OFLC rage)

I like it, and choose to say "Go for it"
Even without the Gore and such, it's still a fun game worth your time.

Update: Nope, seems you Cannae get it that way unless a Foreign friend gives it to you. Pity, but I still say it's worth it.

You can't use Steam to get the normal version. Unless you get someone from another country to gift it to you.

I bought it this morning. Gonna fire it up this afternoon I think. Sounds fun.

Hmm, is there no way to get the uncensored version?
I believe I've read people saying that they managed to purchase a UK version and thus they play uncensored?

Yeah, but I don't think you can play online with those copies.

OP: I would recommend it, even without the gore, it's bigger, better, more expansive, and deeper than the original. An improvement in every way.
Woah, that's crappy =/ Ah well, ith any luck, the new R18+ rating will be approved, and VALVe will give them gorey goodness. Hang in there Aussies! BURN THEIR HOUSES AND IMPALE THEIR CHILDREN! SHOW THEM VIOLENT GAMES HAVE NO EFFECT ON YOU!

...

Wait...

Well, it seems like we might get our R rating for games, so we may get either a patch or another version later on... so maybe wait a bit? Alternatively, get a friend in the UK or States or somewhere to gift you a copy on Steam. I've played the Aussie version at a Net café, it just doesn't feel the same without the gore to be honest.

Honestly I really enjoyed L4D2. They added in a whole slew of melee weapons and the new level designs make you think twice about which way you go. Especially the level, Hard Rain. (I agree with everyone else, just have someone gift it to you. You really should try it though, it's fun and the levels are original.)

I doubt there will be a patch to change the game if an R18+ classification is approved. simple fact being the game has already received approval for sale in one form, why bother. And the way our govt works, won't be any need, they may have it ready for in time for L4D7.

I was considering the whirlpool method, but that just seems like a whole lot of stuffing around. (http://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/?tag=Left4Dead2)

Thanks for the opinions guys, glad to see some enjoyed it nonetheless.

Because this is VALVe. And VALVe, my good man, delivers.

you could try to buy an uncensored cdkey, I've come across 1 cdkey seller website and tried em out and it worked well.

Ill pm the link

Edit: Link Sent. Ive bought from these guys before for there Counter Strike 1.6 Pack which included in total 8 games for ?5. and its proberly your best bet for an uncensored (uncut) left 4 dead 2 imo without messing around with getting others to gift it n such

Can't say on the gore front, because so far I haven't played it without, but I got it last week and have enjoyed playing it every day, and that's mostly been single player, so God only knows what the multiplayer's like.

On steam it says i have put 120+ hours into the original yet only 15 into L4D2

all due to the crappy censor, once the R18+ gets through and the gore is patched in via steam i will play it as i do L4D1.

So i say no until the R18 comes into effect

i bought the game anyway, and i am satisfied for the time being. the appid.txt edit trick works for the single player, and that is what i have been doing atm, so alls good.

thanks for the comments people, they helped with my choice.
