I'm currently studying video game programming and came to me this idea.
What if I take a board game and translate it into a flash game, what are the legal issues around that? I have seen quite a lot of board game being implemented onto flash (or other) platform, a well known portal is Vassal Forge.

So any tips, trick or information I could find from you guys?

Thank

Depends on if the game is public domain or not. Old games like chess, go, and senet are fine. A game like Monopoly, however, would require legal permission from the owner (Parker Brothers, in this case).

Of course, there may be different rules depending on where you live and what you're planning to do with the result.

I guess I have to check on each of them, but mainly what I think is you cant make money out of them, I'm not totally sure its true.
Althought I don't know about putting them directly of flash game site

I just plan to leisurely do them for the pleasure and never really try to get money other than donation.

also I guess I have to check more into my region laws about that but its not very easy to find it exactly

another quick question: is putting them on the apple store for IOS or android market is different for that matter?

Actually, even by thinking about it you're breaking at least 6 laws.
No bright future for you. Stay away from drugs in prison. Oh and avoid showers at all cost !

More seriously :
Invent your own variant. It's not 100% bulletproof solution but it's better than just reproduce some copyrighted game.

...It reminds me of sad case of Teardown aka "let's do Space Hulk game, hoooray !" :|
