From Dtoid: http://www.destructoid.com/legendary-pictures-teases-mass-effect-movie-at-comic-con-205488.phtml

Legendary Pictures has revealed the line-up for their Comc-Con panel this year and lo and behold, they have listed their Mass Effect film! Legendary had previously announced they acquired the rights to the franchise's silver screen incarnation on May 24, with the studio's Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni producing the film alongside Ari Arad -- not to be confused with franchise-ruining Avi Arad (Spider-Man 3, X-Men: The Last Stand) who optioned the rights in 2008.

On the panel will be BioWare's Casey Hudson and screenwriter Mark Protosevich. You may know Protosevich from his writing credit on movies like Cell, Poseidon, I Am Legend, and the upcoming Jurassic Park IV. Thankfully he also worked on the story for Thor, so that's at least one decent movie under his belt.

No details on the plot yet, but one would assume Comic-Con would provide at least some information about the project. I'm going to wildly assume it will involve Reapers, Protheans, Mass Relays, and an intricate sci-fi noir story about Commander Shepard's corrupt practices while doing PR on the Citadel.

Hm... I will have to wait and see some footage before judging.

I doubt anything substantial will be shown, maybe concept art. If they do happen to announce anything it'll probably be who's directing the film.

Be prepared to wait a long while.

What would it actually be about? I can't imagine them trying to sum up the potential 100+ hours from the trilogy in a movie (trilogy). Maybe the emergence of humanity and the Proxy war between the Alliance and the Batarians culminating in the pirate fleet assaulting Elysium.

That depends entirely on what you read. If the likes of Dan Brown or J. K. Rowling could be included then you officially can't assess good writing.

It's on Wikipedia, along with a Warcraft and Gears of War adaptation, so its official.

If they do make this movie, the only way I could see it working is if they make it about the First Contact War. I certainly don't want Hollywood telling me my Shepards aren't canon. And maybe they could get Drew Karpyshyn to write the screenplay(most likely won't happen). I'm really not looking forward to this if it actually happens.

I am worried and excited at the same time. I LOVE Mass Effect, and Legendary Pictures has put out a lot of truly excellent movies(Inception, Dark Knight) that bode well for this project. Then again, how often do Video Game corssovers go well? We will see.

I hope Bioware is really hands-on with this. Also, the video in the link is hilarious.

I havent read Dan Brown books, ont remmber much of harry potter, but it went downhill after 4, maybe even 3.

Sorry but MEs writing isnt that great, im just gong to highlight the WORST example. Object rho. Why ?
... Why would an invading army leave a beacon to signal their return to their allies? I sure am stumped.

I'm game as long as it isn't about Commander Shepard. The Mass Effect universe is filled to the brink with movie-worthy material.

What version of Mass Effect did you play? 'Cause I'm pretty sure most people that even dislike Mass Effect praise its writing, seeing as this is Bioware and even Yahtzee has said good writing is pretty much a given in their games. Admittedly the story for ME2 suffered from a bit of "middle prequel syndrome," but the writing and character development was still really good.

OT: I look forward to this, if they do it right. But they have to do it right. Good video game based movies are very possible (look at Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children and Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva), but here in the states they've always been given little actual effort and no respect on the part of the creators. Hopefully that's not the case on this one, and if so, it'll be awesome.

I will deny its existence if it tells any of Shepard's story. So yeah, I'm in the "kill the movie" camp. The fact that I have a low view of movies in general these days doesn't help. A TV show could do the Mass Effect universe way better justice, since much of it is episodic in nature anyway. But I'm still against telling the story of Shepard.

The reapers dont have allies. Those that count as allies were arleady controlled and knew about them returning. They didnt need a "HI ORGAICS, USE THIS TO TRACK OUR RETURN". Arrival was a fuck up, a sign of things to come.
Yeah anyone would think it would be a good idea to leave some kind of fail safe... like a reaper indoctrination device... just in case.

I bet Uwe Boll will be directing it..or Michael Bay..

In any case, it will probably be worse than any of the Games could ever be, so no point in me watching it :O

I'm going to watch the movie expecting something bad, and hopefully, I'll walk out satisfied. My only worry is that they will try to cover too much in too little time and end up another Avatar: The Last Airbender.
