What do you guys think of Epic's decision not to give players an option to quit a multiplayer Gears 2 match unless they exit to the dashboard altogether? It's definitely made a difference in the number of matches that actually make it to the end with all players present, so that's a plus. But what if you're one those left who don't quit, and most of your wussy team has left. That essentially forces you to go back to the dashboard through no fault of your own.

What do you guys think? Good, bad? Annoying, irrelevant?

A nice try, but if people are still leaving, a pointless one. Should ding their stats for desertion or something. I'm sure somebody figured out how to punish stat padding by now.

I ponder this as I sip on my gin and tonic, playing a round of Guardian, and I agree with you. I think Epic has said that they will bring "more severe" penalties for quitting early with this patch they're planning.

Oh! I spoke too soon. I shit you not, the entire opposing team in my Guardian match just quit! Ridiculous. I mean, we still win, but come the eff on.

I've heard that they added some sort of penalty, but I'm not sure what it is exactly. Is it just the removal of the option to leave matches?

Personally, I would just add it as a statistic in the lobby. Next to the player's names you'd have a percentage of matches deserted or something of that variety to mark "proper" players.

Yes, currently there is no option to leave matches unless you leave the game altogether and quit to the Xbox 360 dashboard. I think having a "quit percentage" would be a good stat that lets you match up with people and publically shames the wusses.

I don't think there should be a punishment for leaving a match. Shit happens, and your ability to exist in the game world relies on what happens in the real world. I don't wanna be punished in the game world because the shit hits the fan in some way or another in the real world. I like having the freedom to play however long I want, and that shouldn't be taken away from me.

I think whoever leaves in the middle of a game should do so without penalty and be replaced by a bot. Sure, not as great, but it's better than nothing, can it keeps the "omg xxxpwn3rsp4rt4n left now the teams are 14:15 this is so imbalanced waaaaaaaaah" people from, well, whining quite as loudly.

Legit point. Thing is, there are no bots that come in to replace the departed. It's very frustrating.

This is why I hate the matchmaking service in Gears of War. In the first one I spent most of my time in private matches and if someone did leave then there will be plenty of others to fill his place. Now you can only friends or recently played players can join a private match.

They should do what Halo 3 does, where quiting means losing one Exp point. That might not sound like much but one experience point is like 1.2 victories lost, something that usually stops people from leaving. I've heard that the option to leave a matchmaking game which "Yes I am a coward, penalize me" is very effective at keeping people in the game. They should have something like that for Gears of War. They should also try and group the quitters with each other so that those who try and enjoy a full game, can.

I know there aren't, but I think it'd be a pretty good idea.

That would annoy me to no end, I don't quit matches unless something comes up in real life. To make one exit to the dashboard is just annoying. Why can't everything be like COD4 and when someone drops, a few seconds later a new player comes in? Simple teams stay full, everyones happy, unless you are the player who drops in on the team thats losing 50-10. :)

Honestly, it's pretty fucking irritating. Hey, Epic, I know you thought it would be cool to let players vote on the maps, but when players vote to a map that I don't want to play, and that map sucks, and I should be able to leave. Especially when it's Horde, and it's between River and Avalanche, I want to be able to leave a game that I don't want to play, or, for not letting me leave easily when a friend comes online that I want to play with, or, when I get into a party with a bunch of assholes. But it is especially irritating to have to go back to the dashboard because somebody decided to be a dick and vote against a map that is actually fun to play on for a map that is *not* fun to play on. Like ruins.

I'm a bit of a fan of this "Little number saying how often people leave early' thing. It seems like something that should be implemented in a lot of games.
