Several people in the Prop 8 argument were talking about the negative impact churches (especially Mormon churches) had on the voting of Prop 8.

Should Non-Profit Organizations be prohibited from taking active roles in legislation/political campaigns?

PLEASE NOTE: By saying "NPO's" I am talking about ALL not for profit organizations, not just churches. If you're going to ban one for rounding up all registered voters in their membership and getting them all to vote in one direction, just remember there are numerous secular NPO's (ACORN and Rainbow Coalition come easiest to mind) that do the same thing.

EDIT: I am not talking about the alleged "fraud" complaints. Just legal campaigns.

well... imo religion donating money to political campaigns... seperation of church and state why does noone in this fucking country remember this? well... does a political party pay taxes? if not, then in general, yes, non-profit organizations should be allowed to go for political campaigns. if they do... well then it gets more complex.

The Seperation of Church and State is not actually explicitly mentioned in the Constitution, but instead it has been an accepted barrier over the years. Or at least, that what my Government textbook said about it the last time I read it.
