Two things quickly spring to mind here.
Other than that I can't say whether most "progressive" people would be satisfied with the character of Bayonetta. But I certainly thing that Kamiya created his perfect woman to idolize her rather than objectify her. It feels like the design of this game is highly personal and artistic similar to Gears of War by Cliff Belinski and I have a lot of respect for that.

D'oh factual Kamiya error. I'm not really sure I agree with the insinuation here either. Is she attacking their role in the story ( the first two are involved with the story heavily and the third isn't less a footnote than most bosses) and I certainly wouldn't say they lack capability. While his games have always featured strong, sexy women (Devil May Cry's Trish, Lady and Nevan) the ladies are more or less just eye candy, objects to be ogled.
So women and men are equal but women are also better???I already know that women can do all the same things men can. This time, I get to see a woman do plenty of things men can't. And I love it.
