Yawn.... I'm sure I said this with the first Kickstarter-make-our-dreams-come-true-pay-our-wages, illogical non-investment... but seriously, is anyone really sitting saying - damn, I wish someone would remake that cheesy point and click game with the hookers and strippers and that little 80's douchebag?
No. Give us a fricken break with the kickstarter this, and kickstarter that - we should not have to fund the development of a game that then goes on to make a guaranteed profit, which nobody who invested benefits from!
It's like selling people farts. You can buy one of my farts for $40, that fart is yours to enjoy for the whole life span of the fart, other people might smell it, and I'll take $40 from them as well, but since you paid for the original fart, I'll write your name on a piece of paper and smile everytime I read it. There should be a clause, that if the game goes into profit (which it always will, when it's based on a no-return investment!) - people who contributed get their money back. The developers would all get their salary, percentage etc - but if people pledge enough money to fund a game development, they should be entitled to a percentage of that games profit - at least to cover their 'investment'. That way, people would be more inclined to donate, they show support early on and hopefully get a game for free at the end of it.
Some people are using services like Kickstarter to do good things, smaller projects that are after around $20,000 - not too greedy, not expecting the world handed to them - I can respect that. Nowadays it seems that general gamers are expected to take the role of non-profit investors, somehow that's acceptable.
Sorry to rant... but I said it from the start, and it's good to see other people getting sick of Kickstarter million dollar pleading campaigns and badly done videos that try to capitalise on skewed nostalgia. There are games I'd like to see redone, none of them are point n click, what about IK+, or Skool Daze - or what about Manic Miner - I'm sure Matt Smith could use the money.... for weed, but still I'd prefer to gamble on that, than ending up with a game that is based solely on the promise of cartoon porn.
