So my friends and I are going to see Star Trek tonight and I thought I should make a thread to discuss the movie. Any thoughts on it?

I thought it was great, but there were a lot of scientific inconsistencies. I'll over-look that because it was so great, though.

Cool effects, although some things look far too new (especially the Enterprise bridge), while others have a nice retro-feel (engine room).
Timeline gets totally fucked up, that's a bit sad, but it opens the possibility for a new line of sequels to the prequel I guess.
Most of the actors were okay/good and I genuinely had to laugh a lot during the movie, many of the jokes were spot on, others were great references to previous Star Trek stuff.
The main villain was kind of a douche.
Overall, not exactly Star Trek (at least in the TNG/Voyager/DS9 sense), but still a good film, had lots of fun with it.

It was certainly entertaining if not predictable. I'm not the biggest star trek fan so pretty much any throwbacks or fan-service were lost on me. Also Simon Pegg was pure win.

The movie was watchable at best, given its mostly impressive special effects. However, the plot made no sense whatsoever, physics may as well not exist in the movie, and the dialog was often nothing short of horrific.

It's worth seeing, I really enjoyed it so don't be put off by people who say it's just a way to spend time and money.

nice thread title btw

It was the first time I've seen any Star Trek, and I have to say I enjoyed it a lot.

It's nothing particularly deep, and it's certainly not going to go down as an all-time classic. For what it is, though, it's very good. It's a good science-fiction action movie with top-notch production values, an interesting story and likeable characters. It's loud, there are a lot of explosions, but that's not a problem. It was entertaining; I strongly recommend it.

So I saw it, and I am glad I brought sunglasses. So many lens flares...

It was good in every way except the sci-fi. The point of sci-fi is that not much suspension of disbelief is needed as it always sort of makes sense, not here though.

Hum, lots of non-Star Trek lovers have said that it's good. If it were the star trek movie I'm looking for then that wouldn't be true so, it's probably a more generic version of the show I loved. As such, I'm not in a big hurry to see it.
