As in, the literal kind. Sure, we all know diamond is never gonna be knocked from the top spot, because it's just too useful in addition to being pretty. Rubies, sapphires, and emeralds also are quite valuable, and even some less valuable minerals like jade, opal, and amethyst get a lot of good press. But what about the lesser known and little talked of gems? What of heliodor and spinel, hematite and peridot? What of garnet and topaz? Surely they deserve some recognition!

Admittedly, they're less likely to be name-dropped; it would be hard to take the main demon lord of the Slayers universe seriously if he were named Bixbite-Eye Shabranigdo, and who wants to see Sonic take on Dr. Robotnik with the awesome power of the Chaos Tourmalines? But regardless, this is my question to you, The Escapist. Are there any less valuable or recognized gems/precious minerals that you favor?

Personally, I'm an absolute sucker for malachite.

Aventurine doesn't get the respect it deserves in the wider community.
You'd think it'd get more recognition simply because of the name...though admittedly, when I first saw it, I accidentally imagined a "d" in there, somewhere.

On the other hand, it's green quartz, and I like green and quartz a lot, so...

Tsavorite is a nice form of Garnet. It's extremely rare, and has a beautiful dark green color.

Another one of my favorites is Laramar. It's a sky blue stone with with white swirled throughout.

Seraphinite is another good lesser known stone.

I used to study gemology, so I know about quite a lot about gems, and how to look for a good stone.
