In this sense its comparable to Abel Ferrara's The Addiction and Guillermo del Toro's Cronos; stories in which the vampire-mythos is merely of peripheral importance.

Because you've got to wonder: How did Eli and Hakan meet and how long have they known eachother? Maybe Hakan was also a little boy when he met Eli. I should try and track down the novel since I heard it goes to a lot deeper and darker places.
