I'm giving an example, I didn't actually like Superman 64. My point was, that if I mention I like a completely broken, unplayable game, I don't get half the shit I do for saying I liked DNF. It's stupid. If I say I liked Too Human, I'd probably even get PRAISE from the cult following of fans its amassed. And DNF is at least better than Too Human...CannibalRobots said:I believe you are lying, playing the hipster card of "I like this because everyone else hates it."Andy of Comix Inc said:Moreso than liking other games people don't like. When I say I liked Superman 64, for example, no-one bats an eyelid.
Superman 64 was an unholy beast of a game that ended up being completely unplayable.
No game is truly terrible. Surely this was your point.CannibalRobots said:Now lets not mince words, DNF is terrible, but try to think subjectively and view each of it's aspects and qualities separately.
You didn't even think the EGO system was a cute idea? I can think of a few nice things to say about Duke Nukem Forever from a purely conceptual standpoint.evilneko said:I honestly can't think of anything nice to say about Duke Forever.
Shit can rust? I never knew thatFusioncode9 said:Let's not, Duke Nukem Forever was a rushed piece of shit. Yes a game 14 years in development was rushed.
The gameplay was trash. It was trying to be an actual shooter with resource management (ammo management, medpack management) while trying to appeal to the morons that play modern shooters (regenerating health so you don't have to keep track of medpacks, can only carry a couple weapons so you never need to worry about reserving ammo for a specific need, etc... basically less thought involved) at the same time, and the result was that it sucked at both.Andy of Comix Inc said:DID YOU TAKE NOTHING FROM MY OP ;-;Fanfic_warper said:unlikeable main character, bad gameplay, bad acting, bad graphics bad.....yeah I'm gonna stop while I'm ahead.
...the gameplay was fine, if you like that sort of thing. The acting was actually pretty good, at least on Jon St. John's end. The graphics were well-rendered (though the majority of human characters looked and were animated atrociously), the environments were staggeringly varied (and that's objective, no-one can say the progression of hotel - Las Vegas casino - alien hive - strip club - burger bar is "unvaried," despite the muddy brown look that tied them all together).
Duke Nukem is a parody of Duke Nukem. It doesn't need a plot, and if it has one, it's because it's parodying one. A plot half-baked because that's the joke, compared to a plot that was messy because Bioware wanted a trilogy so rushed to fill in Part II, comes out on top, to be honest.
Exactly. Gearbox really screwed up Duke in his personality. He's not some douche bag who makes dumb sex jokes, he's a hero who says one liners occasionally... Some parts were pretty funny to me, like when he goes "BZZZzzzzzz" after completing a puzzle to shut off a fan thing. It was just silly humor that didn't have to be all "WE'RE DANCING ON TEH LINE LOL."MGlBlaze said:What I have a problem with is that Duke is a misogynist asshole. Before people say he was before; no, he wasn't. Before he was just an idiot, and he was funny like that, but before DN:F he did seem to genuinely care about women in his own way.
In DN:F?
"Guess you're fucked."
What.
And that's just one of the truly monstrous comments he has in the game. Another one that stands out in my mind is "Guess he won't be in the sequel.", the target of which was a supposed well-liked comrade that just died slowly and painfully.
I paid $100. That's right: $100. I live in Australia. That's common. But don't you dare complain a game isn't worth $60 when I'm in the room.PizzaSHARK said:DNF was a rush job by Gearbox to try and make some quick money by stringing together the twenty different bits twenty different developers worked on, and to try and get some money out of people letting nostalgia getting the better of them.
DNF is probably worth $15 or $20. More than that, no. If you're gonna spend $60 on a shooter, at least buy one of the many different modernized shooters at that price tag - at least you know you're getting something consistent that way.
Okay, yes. Duke Nukem was an unlikable douche. But at least he was unlikable because he was written that way, and not because he was voiced by Nolan North...? ...no, you've got a good point there. Didn't bother me, because I grew up on South Park and nothing offends me any more in the slightest. But it was definitely without point.Valdsator said:Exactly. 3D Realms needs to write the jokes when they make the next Duke game.
