If you truly believe your poster, provide some evidence that actual religious principles cause the collapse of the economy and that pure human stupidity didn't do so.

You need to learn how to read chap. It clearly says that republicans ran the economy into the ground.
But I thought it was quite obvious that all this thread is is flame bait. Nothing more.

If this is really flamebait, why did I not provide a definitive answer on the subject. Again, this is a free speech area. Flame can happen if it happens.

But also notice I said provide solid evidence, this goes for both religious views and atheist views. What I was attacking was not Atheist thought, but illogical thought that denies evidence provided to the contrary at times.

But believe what you will. And feel free to leave at any time.

I think the purpose of this thread is to say that this user is sick of people bashing religion as much as religion itself. I have the same opinion OP, Where the extremes are both illogical and pointless and are the cause for all this debate that occurs.

All things in moderation. I'm a mildly religious man, not a saint or anything, but I believe in the basic tenants of Catholicism. I'm kind of annoyed by anti-theists constantly making blanket statements about my faith, especially when they have no fucking clue what they're talking about.

I'll step up and speak for my fellow athiests and say that A. Its true that most of them are blanket statements and I apologize if you have been offended and B. we untheists (just to give us all a general term) have for a long time been a threatened minority in the United States, and have almost no representation in government, and have been considered "heathens" and the such for the longest time, so please cut us some slack, ok?

Something cannot happen for no reason. So the Big Bang just happening can't be valid. Something had to generate it for the universe to start. If that's your theory of choice that is.

Actually, there are a couple of theories out there that explain the cause of the big bang, like all scientific theories, the normal bloke doesn't understand, and so the creationists distort and butcher as a means to an end.

Just as the theory of evolution explains what happened to life after abiogenesis, the big bang explains what happened to the universe after the 'cause'.

Atheists are okay, so long as they don't make those blanket statements I mentioned. But I said anti-theists. Those are the people who think religion is nothing but evil and must be purged from the world.

Well just because we don't have anything to form a hypothesis off of doesn't mean there isn't anything. Just because there is no data does not mean you should write it off as the work of a god and leave it at that. Besides, have you heard of the multiverse theory, in which black holes act as "umbilical chords" to other universes; where the point of singularity in the black hole gives off a "big bang"-like phenomenon in the child universe?

Again, something has to create these black holes..or something has to set the motions in which they are created.

And where did I say God in my argument? I haven't. Not yet. God is a possible explanation, but I haven't even written that I believe it. So how can you infer that, considering I'm at a state of indecision right now?

No, no there isnt. Lets take Christianity. Founded 2000 years ago... thats 1200 years before the conception of what people could call "Modern Science".

They arent connected.

Even a relatively new Religion, Scientology, really struggles to have ANY scientific proof. It has some "Hey look, famous people follow this religion" proof...

But modern scientific principles can be used to explain possible phenomena that occur in scientific doctrine. Also, there is the evidence of historical doctrine. I also understand that all these things can be biased.

I'm just trying to stay neutral in my thought right now. I merely said that God is a possible explanation. POSSIBLE. Read for detail, but not beyond what you have evidence for.

Anyway on topic (as I suppose I had better at least try) There can be no solid proof on the topic of religion.
I mean we can pick apart several aspects of any given religion like for example the Christ mythos as it is clear he is ripped off of a guy named Mithra amongst others.
However we can not prove either way if there is a god or not. Also the big bang thing. That is also scientific theory, not fact.
Anyway for all the good religion may have brought us it has undoubtedly done far more harm.
Even excluding all the wars and shit it still brought us the dark ages where all scientific research was outlawed. Even today they are fucking with science like in the example of stem cell research.
It is like they do not want anyone to better themselves.

You still have failed to show me how religious principles has caused these dark ages, and not the stupidity of people distorting the doctrine has done it.

Personally I like the idea of stem cell research..it would be good information to have to see how cells get their functions imprinted on them and how they form into particular organs.

It'll take me a bit to dig up some of the old books I've read on it, but I'll be sure to get back to you on it when I do.
