Check this out from Cambodia:

Woah, what is that Tea?
It appears to be the "Temple of Ta Prohm" in Angkor, Cambodia.
I went to Google Image and searched "Temple" and found this in a slew of other pictures from a website called "Sacred Sites". Pretty cool, actually.
That's weird, I read Cambodia as Canada...I wouldn't have asked if I've read it properly.

Why would you be jealous?
Those are just Torah Cabinats, not cinagogs, and there aren't nothing like huge cathedrals in judisim, just small ones.

Hmm, quite.
Judaism never had the architectural development more widespread religions had.

I did like the cathedral picture, mainly because I can sort of imagine some sort of haunting organ music protruding out of it's echoey chamber.

To Samurai Goomba: Well done on creating a thread which looks at the lighter said of religion and ignores the pointless flaming and re-igniting of old debates every other religious thread falls into and suffers because.

Awesome thread. ^^

Anyone got a picture of that church made almost entirely out of human bones?

I absolutely love Mayan, Incan and Aztec (or any other ancient South American) architecture.

Beautiful.

Thanks. I can always use more fodder to feed my massive ego. I had the idea very, very early in the morning, so I wasn't sure whether it was a good idea or a demented raving of my psychotic brain.

Since there's a lack of Christian churches on here, I thought I'd post a couple. One of these churches is MY church. Since I found the image and all, I figured I'd include it with the batch. Have fun guessing. Actually, two of them are my church organization, which probably narrows it down quite a bit if anyone's boring enough to figure out how to read the URLs.

As you can see, Christian churches have their own unique architectural style. I'm not sure if I like it as well, but that could be because this style is so commonplace in America. Maybe if I was Japanese I'd think that traditional Japanese shrines are boring or something, because they'd no longer be exotic.

That's because we don't think the building matters, its the teachings that matter, the building just keeps you dry.

The only building that matters is the Temple, and its been 1939 years since we have had one of those. Even then, it was about the interior, not exterior.
I think that's the same with every religion, the only reason there isnt a big notredamesque synagogue is because up until recently there was no Jewish nation and the jews themselves were looked down upon by christians, making the construction of huge jewish buildings quite impossible.

Here's Angkor Wat, a famous religious monument. Supposedly the largest religious monument in the world, according to random Internet facts.

And here's a Scottish monument (probably religious):

This is cathedral from my area. I know nothing about the architecture as i am a layman on the subject. I always liked the tall towers.

Say Hello to St. Cecilia (catholic) Can you find Mary in two of the pictures?

If you want to see some crazy religion inspired architecture then you should check out Gaudi's "Church of the Holy Family" in Barcelona. I visited some years ago, totally blew me away

Ah, La Sagrada Familia, I was going to bring that up. I was there over the summer, absolutely amazing. Speaking of Gaudi, have you been to Parc Guell? [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Park_g%C3%BCell] Not religious architecture, but still...amazing.

Also, while in France, I went to a church designed by Matisse, seen here [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chapelle_du_Rosaire_de_Vence], near Vence. I personally didn't like it, as it felt oppressive inside (small + stark white walls with simple drawings in black + very simple colors where there are any = claustrophobia), but it's still quite interesting.

Last one, a Basilica [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basilica_of_Our_Lady_of_the_Pillar] in Zaragoza. You feel like an ant when you're inside it.

EDIT:Just to clarify, I've been to all the sites talked about in the above post, as well as others. I felt it would be a bit too obvious to mention Notre Dame de Paris or Sacre Coeur. though.
