Okay, riddle me this: If Super Mutants come from this Vault, how do they make the fucking Behemoths? There's no way they could get them out of this Vault.
Capital Wasteland super mutants get bigger as they age.
I dunno, that just raises even more questions to me.
I'd say once you get over the "Why are there even super mutants on the East Coast?" question you can pretty much write off everything else about them the same way.

Damn, my internet is capped and page 15 will not load properly.

Anyone care to post/quote the updates on page 15 here for little ol' me?

That's something I didn't understand either, why couldn't you just say, "It's cool, I'm with you! I have the poison stuff and I want to use the water to kill everyone too, now lets team up and kill Sarah then get on with our plan." Assuming you sided with Eden that is. And then even if you go through with Eden's plan after you neutralize Autumn, You still take down the Enclave in Broken Steel rather than instal yourself as their new leader, and then fight your way to the controls of the orbital strike platform. At that point it would make literally no sense at all to take out the citadel, because they aren't in your way because YOU KILLED THE ONLY PEOPLE THAT WOULD BENEFIT FROM DESTROYING THEM. All of this even if you side with Eden. I still loved the game though.

I don't mean that i want to join up with Eden (his plane is insane), but i want to join Autum and take over the wasteland by siding with him. Fuck the BOS. Enclave FTW as long they aren't tossers. And as you say, it doesn't make any sense that you will destroy the citadel. Bad writting at it finest.
Ah, well don't worry, I was just talking about that path in general.

They absolutely railroad you into helping the Brotherhood in this game, for really no apparent reason. Would it have taken that much work to have an Enclave path for like the final quest or so?

[HEADING=1]Chapter XLV - You Want Me To Blow Up? Okay[/HEADING]
Last update we were captured by the Enclave in a rather abrupt way. How are we going to get out of this?

We're stuck in a forcefield-thing that's stopping us from doing anything.

God, this guy's face is so incredibly smug.

"Let's keep this nice and simple. You're going to tell me the code for that Purifier, and you're going to tell me now."

"What the hell is going on here?"

There is no "Wait, aren't you supposed to be dead?" dialogue option or anything. Which makes the whole thing seem even more like an asspull, honestly.

"I'll tell you what's going on here. You lost."

Oh come on, even he has to admit flash bang out of nowhere was an incredibly cheap shot. You could hardly call that winning.

"The good guys won this one, and now we're just wrapping up loose ends. We've got the purifier, now we just need the code to start it."

Wait, did Dad even tell us the code?

"You're going to give me that code now, and save us all a lot of trouble. Maybe I'll even let you go. So how about it?"

"Fuck you. I'm not telling you anything."

"I'll be honest. I'm running out of patience here, and I'm not looking to play games with you. You tell me that code, or it's going to cost you."

"No, seriously. Fuck you."

"Why do you insitst on provoking me? Tell me the code NOW."

Asking three times isn't going to work. Unless this is one of those "But Thou Must" situations-

Thankfully, Autumn is distracted by a voice over the intercom.

...

Ah, yes. You're the other famous person doing some voice acting for this game.

So now, we're free. Just like that. What does Eden expect us to do? Just to politely walk up to see him, and not wreak vengeance on everyone in the facility?

Fully armed too. You think that Eden might have, at the very least, kept the bulk of our armory away from us.

"You're supposed to be in that holding cell. You're not going anywhere! There's a full complement of guards in the next room. As soon as I get them, you're going back to your cell. In a body bag, if necessary."

Don't they need the codes, though?

"[Charisma] I'm on my way up to see the President. How about I put in a good word for you?"

"I, uhh... You are? I mean, you would? Just make sure he knows I was real strict with you, okay? And that I didn't have my uniform on backwards this time."

You'd think this speech/charisma check would really make a difference. It doesn't.

The Enclave bunker is apparently really high tech.

Also, unlike the rest of the game, it's mostly blue. Mostly. There's hints of brown, mostly in the areas underneath the the walkway.

So the Enclave are experimenting on the super mutants here. Why? I dunno, maybe they want to study the special Capital Wasteland variant. They already should be acquainted with super mutants from the West Coast.

Oh great.

I honestly thought my speech check would allow me to get through here without a ton of unnecessary combat on my first time through.

By the end of this area, you will have way many, many extra microfusion cells.

These guys are pretty weak honestly, they can go down in a few combat shotgun shots.

The Blackhawk again proves to be extremely overpowered.

We rudely walk in on some Enclave troopers eating lunch. They don't take kindly to our interruption.

There are many different levels of Raven Rock, all of them with endless amounts of Enclave mooks.

So they're also experimenting on deathclaws. Again, old hat for the Enclave here.

It's a pretty repetitive area, but it's a nice change from the rest of the wasteland.

Oh, so that's what happened to Ana Holt...

Who was she again?

"Wait a minute. What are you doing here?"

"They... they captured me. Brought me here from Project Purity. I didn't want to help them at first, but... The technology they have here. It's so far advanced from anything I've worked with."

"What have you told them?"

"They wanted information. About Doctor Li, about Project Purity. They want to know how to start it up, and why it wouldn't work."

As we will soon find out, Autumn doesn't really have any diabolical plans involving activating the purifier.

"I told them everything I could. About the G.E.C.K., about the damage caused by the exlposions... All of it."

"You've betrayer Doctor Li, and my father."

It's not like she had much of a choice.

"I'm sorry you see it that. What are you going to do, kill me over it?"

You know, it seems incredibly ill-advised to taunt the extremely well armed person, who likely holds a grudge against you and who's currently on a rampage through the entire facility.

"You should go. It sounds like you're in enough trouble as it is, and honestly I don't want anyone to see me talking to you."

More loot.

These scientists are obnoxious, running around and yelling at you. They go down in one shot though.

There are a ton of different labs in this place, with feral ghouls and other mutants being studied.

All of those Enclave soldiers go down in one clip of Chinese Assault rifle shots. So much for that indestrucible power armor.

This bobblehead is a dick move. It's not like an area that you would naturally find while going to Eden, and if you miss it here, you are never are able to get the bobblehead. Even though it's only 10 points, it would probably piss you off if you were a completionist.

At this top floor, there seems to not be any soldiers up here.

Uh oh.

The robots gun down the Enclave guys.

President Eden is all the way up here. This is an impressive room right here, the computer is absolutely huge.

The staircase goes through the inside of the computer. This is a cool little setpiece.

This is President Eden, the guy who you hear talking over the Enclave radio. He is voiced by Malcolm McDowell.

And he's also an AI.

"I am quite pleased you were able to make it. The trip was not what I had intended, but serves as an adequate test of your abilites."

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Mr. President."

I only pick this option because the other one is like "Don't hide behind a monitor." despite it being incredibly obvious now.

"You are too kind. The pleasure is mine, I assure you. I have been anxious to make your acquaintance for some time. You and I have much to discuss, my young friend."

"I'm listening."

"Our nation's Capital is at a crossroads. The path that you and I choose here today will affect us all."

It has a smaller impact than you'd expect.

"I need you to act on my behalf, to ensure that our country's future is secured."

"Can you explain what you mean?"

"My abilities to influence the world are limited at this time. I alone can only do so much. You, however, may come and go as you please. You have a greater degree of freedom."

Less freedom than you'd expect.

"Perhaps it is best if I explain why things need to change, and why I'd like you to act on my behalf."

"Please, go on. I'm intrigued."

So far, Eden seems relatively sane.

"The good people of this country cannot regain control while mutation runs rampant through our land."

Oh.

"My soldiers cannont stem the tide, nor can the cult you've come into contact with, this Brotherhood of Steel. Mutations like the "Super Mutants" and ghouls must be purged from our society, our world, before we can proceed anew."

Do super mutants and ghouls even have to use the water?

"Where others have failed, I believe your father's work can succeed."

"I don't like the sound of this."

There's really no option that says "Fuck no, I'm not doing that." which is really want I would want to say here.

"You must understand - we need to clear the way for humanity to rebuild the Wastes. By making a few small modifications to the purifier your father worked on, mutations can be eradicated with little effort. Anything mutated that comes into contact with that water will be eliminated, removed from the gene pool."

Guess what? Pretty much everyone in the wasteland is mutated to some degree. Putting the FEV in the water is going to pretty much wipe out the entire wasteland. The only people who aren't mutated at all, are the Vault dwellers, and depending on the choices you make during "Trouble on the Homefront" there might not be any Vault dwellers left. You weren't born in the Vault, not to mention with all of the radiation you've soaked up (Hell, if you do Moira's sidequest, you become mutated) the water would kill you too. People sometimes argue that Eden is crazy, and only an evil character would really go through with putting the FEV in the purifier. Even for an absolutely evil character, putting the FEV in the water is incredibly stupid.

Even after that, during Broken Steel, this doesn't really have much of an effect on anywhere in the wasteland. You'd think there would be a whole lot of randomly dead NPC's, but nope, it seems like nothing much at all has changed.

"The men and women of the world will no longer share it with the horrors and monstrosities that have become so commonplace."

"How exactly would I go about doing this?"

You don't even get any lines here that outright refuse his offer, the best you can do is say "How can I do this?".

"In front of you will be a vial of modified FEV virus. It can be inserted into the control console for the purifier. Doing so will inject it into the water supply, and the purifier will take care of the rest. You just need the code to activate the purifier. Simple, isn't it?"

"No way. I'm not doing that."

There we go.

"I find that unfortunate, and most disappointing. I must impress upon you the severity of the situation. I cannot allow you to leave unless the vial is in your possession."

"[Speech, 90%] This has to end, Eden. You need to destroy yourself and this base."

This is a hilarious speech check by the way. There's another science skill check that you can do saying "You can't be President. You're an abortion of science. You need to die..." The logic for getting Eden to kill himself is really silly.

"[SUCCESS] And why would I do that, when I am clearly the best hope for the people of the Wasteland?"

"You can't just decide to take over, and force everyone to follow you."

...

I can think of at least half a dozen better speech options here. The other one is "You can't even control your own troops. You're clearly not fit for this." That's it. No other options, I assume both lead to the same outcome however...

"What alternative would you suggest? Without the Enclave, what will the world do?"

"If you don't stop it now, where will it end? It's up to you to do what's right?"

"Yes, I suppose it is. Very well, you shall have your wish. Once you have left, I will put an end to the Enclave."

So in the end, you manage to convince the leader of the Enclave to blow up and destroy their entire base by just telling him unconvincingly, that what he's doing is wrong. No logic or debate to back it up either. You just tell him to blow up, and he complies.

"I cannot stop Colonel Autumn, however. That much will be up to you."

So in the end, this choice is entirely pointless. If Eden is left alive, apparently he dies inbetween the events of the main game and Broken Steel. Really. The key difference being that before the very end of the game, Eden will go over the Enclave Radio and declare war on the Brotherhood. That's it.

"I suppose, then, that this is goodbye. You'll have to see yourself out; I have preparations to make."

We have to take the FEV before leaving of course.

Let's get out of here!

Another cool thing is that you can see the vertibirds taking off.

The Enclave soldiers get gunned down by all the sentry bots.

There's an awful lot of explosions in here. Eden started the self-destruct a bit too early, methinks.

There's the way out.

I have a feeling there's going to be an awful lot of Enclave soldiers outside waiting for us.

Oh look, there's Fawkes! He's helping us out by gunning down Enclave soldiers with his new Gatling Laser.

Raven Rock explodes like a dozen times after you get out of it.

Autumn and a good chunk of his soldiers manage to get away, presumably heading towards the purifier.

Not all of them make their way out though.

So basically Fawkes followed us here, and came to rescue us, despite us being plenty capable of making it out on our own. Now, if we had evil or neutral karma, Fawkes would go his seperate way. However, if you have good karma, you can recruit Fawkes here. You want that. Fawkes is the strongest companion in this game. While Dogmeat is indestructible, his damage output is kind of average, Fawkes on the other hand is indestrucible but also can do a shit ton of damage.

Raven Rock continues to explode for about 30 seconds, until...

Boom! It's a pretty cool section of the game, at the very least.

So now we're set to finish the main quest of this game. Until then, no more sidetrips, no other DLC's, we're playing through this until we finish it.
Did you guys miss the Energy Weapons bobblehead?

Also, for an upcoming mini-update, do you guys have any particular favorite mods for this game? I want to do a mod showcase update. (I'm mostly looking for stuff that adds things that are weird/cool to the game. I do like some complete overhaul mods, but they won't have anything interesting enough for a single update.)

I feel like mods would be great fun, but I suck at technical software stuff. I can't even torrent a movie properly. Any tips for someone who has never downloaded a mod before?

Edit: By that I mean can you tell me how one is supposed to install them?

Yeah, I missed the Energy Weapons bobblehead.

As for mods... I never really used them except for bug fixes in FO3. I used a fair few of them in FNV- even made a couple for myself. But not for FO3 for some reason.

Mothership Zeta crew mod. Was Zeta a burning pile of shit? Now it is still a burning pile of shit, but at least after that it gets really interesting.

In Broken Steel, if you do put the FEV in the water, you'll find Med Camps everywhere with people dying from it. There's at least one in Megaton.

And try these

FOWE: Fallout Wanderer's Edition (Which Spawned the Hardcore mode in New Vegas)
Ion Cannon Beacon: Cause this one is so much fun
REFLEX: Better actions, being able to sprint, use Bullet Time instead of VATS, different vision modes, special actions like breaching instead of lockpicking, fun stuff.
True, but it doesn't make a huge difference in the game, just a bunch of dead, nameless NPC's. Even just killing off unimportant, named NPC's in cities would have been enough for me, honestly.

FWE is a really good mod, but not the type I'm looking for here. No overhaul mods that make changes to the basic gameplay, something that's a bit easier to show off.

Usually, you just have to copy and paste the files into your data folder and download Fallout Mod Manager. Some mods require FOSE, which is also really easy to install. Just go here, most of the files have really basic instructions on how to download it:

http://fallout3nexus.com/

(There's also one for New Vegas too.)

http://newvegasnexus.com/

Edit: I didn't realize how little time there is between leaving Raven Rock and getting to the purifier, so the next update will be the very end of the main game. I'll show the epilogue in a mini-update afterwards.

Still, try the Ion Cannon Beacon. Toss it on the ground, run like hell, and watch the dudes from Independence Day mark that particular area for elimination.
That does indeed look pretty awesome.

I don't quite understand so I'll ask you all, because knowing my luck I'll click the wrong thing and my computer will spontaneously combust. From what I gather the Mod Manager is like a little menu where I can see the mods I have downloaded and turn them on and off without having to un-install them. Right?

Yup. You still have to put the files in the necessary folder, however.

That was oing to be my next question. I am not so stupid that I think everything I download will show up there, so: where do I put the stuff to have it work in the game and show up in the menu?

Usually the games Data folder, unless stated otherwise. Usually some of the larger mods give basic instructions on how to do this, it's quite easy once you figure this out.

You have to go to folder in your Program Files, and find the directory for Fallout 3/New Vegas.

BIG NEWS!!!!1111!!!

I've come up with I name for my philosophy rants!

"Lessons with Head Scribe Viking"

And I'll give each of them their own title. I would be honored if you would link my stuff to the OP now that I have a name for it. I have found that it is better for me to wait until the discussion comes up naturally then search for something to talk about so, I'll let things run their course unless I think of something particularly interesting.

While I can't remember its name, there is a mod where all it does is stick a load of randomly produced trees and vegitation all over the wasteland. Whether you're not convinced that there'd be no vegitation after 200 years, or you're just fed up with gray on gray it makes playing (for me anyway) a much more pleasent experience.
