X-Com Incident Report, 11th June

Just when we thought it couldn't get any worse, another alien craft appeared on an infiltration run.

Aimed at North America again, they must be trying to spread their poisonous influence to Canada. The craft was engaged by an interceptor from Europe and destroyed.

X-Com Incident Report, 13th June

Next came another scout looking for us for retaliation, ye gods they are persistent.

It came in over africa, and Ninjablu launched in the Firestorm, now fully armed, when it hit the Middle East, intercepting it over the western Himalayas and forcing it to the ground. The Skyranger team launched to collect the wreckage.

Report Ends

X-Com Battle Report, UFO Crash Recovery 21

Disembarkation was clear of fire this time, but the aliens were soon spotted waiting along a ridge to the east.

Combined II took care of the southern one.

Whilst Dekkarax hit the one to the north.

Another was spotted sheltering behind the ridge the first had been standing on.

No-one could get a clear shot at it until Birras, demonstrating the capabilities of the new flying suit, fired a rocket down from high altitude. The alien survived the blast, but the rocket blew enough of the rock away that Dekkarax could sight on it and finish it off.

Report Ends

Another intact craft with another load of Elerium. It's fortunate we're encountering these smaller vessels at this time. Larger assaults would be a different ballgame.

----

X-Com Incident Report, 16th June

Once more, the citizens of the Americas are imperiled by aliens, and their governments turn a blind eye.

The interceptor that used to be stationed at the Asia base had recently been transferred to the USA facility, it launched to intercept this intruder, and downed it over the southern United States. The Skyranger once more saddled up to retrieve.

----

X-Com Incident Report, 16th June

Whilst the Skyranger was in the air, another alien craft approached South East Asia, scouting for targets for a terror strike,

The firestorm launched as before, and it was forced down well short of any population centres in the region. It will be retrieved as soon as possible.

Report Ends

----

X-Com Battle Report, UFO Crash Recovery 22

As soon as AceDiamond exited the skyranger on this mission, he spotted a Floater in ambush position in a first floor window.

Taking advantage of the hovertank's ability to fly at altitude, he fired through the window and hit the creature. It survived the first hit and fired back, but with a stun bomb, ineffective against a remote operated vehicle, and Ace's second shot killed it.

Exploring the LZ further, Ace spotted a second Floater behind a hedge.

No-one could get an angle to shoot at it thanks to the hedge and tree cover, so Dekkarax threw a grenade over the hedge, which blasted the alien, and most of the trees, to bits.

No more aliens were outside at the LZ, but as AceDiamond approached the UFO he spotted one inside through a hole in the roof.

After a brief exchange of fire, the alien fell.

The team set breaching charges and prepared to enter.

CAPSLOCK FURY was first to see inside, and he spotted an alien immediately.

He signalled to the soldier on the door to rush in, but as he did so he spotted another alien behind the first. Since both had their backs turned, he took the opportunity to shoot this one, whilst CAPSLOCK FURY shot the one he was already lined up on.

Report Ends

Mission Debriefing, General McSwine

We are certainly being kept busy over these few days. There has been a constant stream of missions, all relatively low risk tactically but all indicating much greater strategic problems to come, especially with the threat still looming of retaliation from the alien forces.

Attachment: Alien Weaponry Dossier, Plasma Rifle.

The plasma rifle is one of the Aliens' main small arms, it's not their most powerful weapon, and needs a lucky shot to injure or kill a soldier through his power armour, but as Higurashi can attest, it's far from impossible that this happen.

The weapon offers no advantages to X-Com personnel over the Heavy Plasma already in use, so these weapons are sold on to government and security forces.

Konichi Wa from the Chinese Base, we tested the Blaster Launcher yesterday and all I can say is "Wow!".

I've been told NEVER to fire it indoors, even if the Aliens are attacking, but rules are made to be broken.

They also turned down my idea to sell 'defective' plasma rifles to the Americans. Guys have no sense of fun.

Interesting, since we haven't seen any Ethereals yet...

However, if you want to take part, I can find a place for you. The squad roster is pretty much full, but I'll need a chief torturer interrogator for captured alien scum.

There is just no quit in the aliens. Ever since we made breakthroughs on their origins they seem to be determined to stop us. Fortunately we are just as determined to stop them. Also fortunate is that, despite their numbers, the alien soldiers themselves still seem to be dumb as a crate of anvils. A stun bomb against an unmanned hovertank? what kind of idiot does that?

Heard Sgt. Evil grumbling about the General shooting down his request to sell defective plasma rifles to the USA. I suggested that booby-trapped blaster bombs would have been far more hilarious and effective. However we really must not sink to the levels of the aliens, being terrorists to humans...even if they did sell out. No I think punishment should be reserved for after we defeat the menace, find the conspirators, and bring them to justice.

Despite initial plans to keep me at the German X-Com facility, a visit to the bunk found that my belonging have been packed and ready to go. A last minute request by Colonel Shanks to have me on board the SEA team.

Kinda disappointed that we'd be leaving Ace behind. But I heard that he could activate the tanks at SEA from Germany. Perhaps we'd keep in touch via the tanks. Heh.

Also left Sgt. Higs a going away present before I hopped onto the transport plane - my last bottle of vodka from home. I hope it wouldn't be too hard to acquire some home grown vodka from SEA.

Also, heard the guys left back at Germany have been kept busy. I'm starting to wonder when we'll start getting a piece of the action too. My operational effectiveness is starting to get a little rusty with all this inactivity. Training can only do so much to keep me sharp.

X-Com Incident Report, 18th June

Once again, whilst the Skyranger was in the air heading to pick up the remains of the last terror scout, another appeared lookin for the Asia base.

Once more, Ninjablu intercepted it, and downed it over Mongolia.

End Report

----

X-Com Battle Report, UFO Crash Recovery 23

Disembarkation was smooth and untroubled once more. AceDiamond spotted a Snakeman on the first floor of a barn to the West.

Combined II took out the side of the barn with a rocket, and the alien with it.

Scouting to the south, Ace spotted another alien in an orchard.

Showing the value of the Flying Suit to snipers, Gamebrain89 took off to get a firing angle over the hedge and blew the alien away.

Another alien was spotted to the west of that one, and once again was shot by Gamebrain89.

Meanwhile, movement in the barn indicated that the alien there had only been stunned by the rocket. One of the rookies replacing the main team at the Asia base noticed it.

And was able to put it back down.

The second alien shot by Gamebrain89 was also only stunned, and came round as the squad were approaching the UFO, once more it was shot by an alert X-Com agent.

The team breached the walls, and an alien in the bridge area was spotted and shot.

Whilst Dekkarax entered the UFO door, spotting and killing an alien in the southern arm.

Report Ends

----

Mission Debriefing, General McSwine

Again, the results of the mission speak for themselves. These scout vessels now pose a minimal tactical threat to X-Com.

----

X-Com Battle Report, UFO Crash Recovery 24

The squad had no time to rest as they saddled up to assault the scout vessel downed in the early hours by Ninjablu, disembarking in the shadow of a farmhouse protected the team from enemy fire, but soon an alien showed itself around the corner of the building. Reacting quickly, AceDiamond blasted it as it moved to firing position.

Gamebrain89 used his flying suit to take position on top of the farmhouse, where he spotted an alien moving inside the downed vessel.

Firing into the darkness, he was able to take the creature out.

And locate a second.

Which suffered the same fate.

With cover from snipers on the roof, CAPSLOCK FURY rushed the UFO door, spotting two aliens neatly lined up down the centre of he vessel.

Setting the heavy plasma to full auto, he blasted both.

Report Ends

Mission Debriefing, General McSwine

Another busy day draws to a close with more dead aliens. These easy victories may look good on paper, but they are not addressing our strategic requirement to capture an alien commander to locate their base of operations, and are at best a distraction from the real war.

Well, I'm out and about some now, at least. Most of all, I can think clearly through all the meds and whatnot, because they could cut down on the dose. Thankfully, I have entered the rehabilitation program, so it shouldn't be too long before I am back in action... hopefully. Then again, with this kind of wound, it could take another month after this one, as far as I know. Been talking to some of the doctors, and I can't get a straight answer. Some seem really pessimistic, while Dr. Ilyana is as optimistic as ever. She has been very encouraging ever since I was sent here. I think she was the one who stabilised me too. Guess she's in charge of me. It kills me to be such a burden on her, but then again, she's an experienced head doctor. I'll just have to work hard for her.

On the topic of women, I heard Blingie has become Captain now. I guess she's more ambitious than me. But no matter; she's as good for the job as I am. Perhaps I should consider climbing the military ladder. Perhaps I could do even more good. I will have to think on this.

Shizzy has been a pearl. He smuggled some spirit into sickbay. Now, I used to be a man of temperance, but these times called for me to accept his offer. Besides, I couldn't turn him down after such efforts. Just got an entire bottle. I think I will enjoy it, in moderation of course.

OH hell yeah those flying suits are nice. Being able to just fly up and get a good angle on targets is one of the most awesome things I have ever been able to do. I love those Sci Div guys, they are freaking awesome. Thanks to them, I made 4 more kills today. Thats a personal record. We have been continuing our streak against the scumsuckers, taking them out without any major casualties, so I think these scout ship recoveries are going to get tiresome after a while, but thats better than fighting for our lives. I think we stand a good chance of holding them off until we find their main base of operations. Then we are going to kick these freaks right out of our solar system.

Haven't been to see Higs in a while, I think I'll go drop by and visit on the way to the mess. Popping alien skulls is hungry work.

No fire greeted the squad on exiting the skyranger, and the first alien was soon spotted to the southeast.

Another was spotted by AceDiamond in an orchard to the east.

Kevvers took his flying suit up to high altitude and fired down on it.

Those were the only survivors of the crash.

Only the frantic pace of these attacks represents any threat to X-Com. Our handling of ground recovery is swift and effective.

Excerpt Personal Journal, General McSwine

Day 174, Firepower.

Today's report from the science division contained a double edged sword. They'd completed work on the aliens' heavy support weapon, the Blaster Launcher.

This weapon has unparalleled destructive power, and smart warhead delivery means it will all but never miss. The downside is that these weapons will be in the hands of our enemy, we must exercise the ultimate caution where these weapons are likely to be fielded.

----

X-Com Incident Report, 24th June

On the evening of the 24th, disaster struck. An alien scouting for the Asia base dropped in right on top of it.

The interceptors launched to take it down, but it was already too close.

We must assume they know the location of the Asia base, and will attack. Still, we will recover this crashed vessel to prevent it providing too much intel to the attackers.

----

X-Com Battle Report, UFO Crash Recovery 26

The aliens were already dug in at the crash site. One alien was spotted on the first floor of a barn to the south, and movement on the ground floor indicated the presence of another.

The scout who spotted the first opened fire with his laser pistol, managing to shoot through the window and the creature's head.

The Snakeman on the ground floor attempted a counterattack, slithering out of the building and firing at CAPSLOCK FURY, but he and Kevvers returned fire and the alien was killed.

As AceDiamond scouted southwards, another Snakeman was spotted in a field to the southeast.

Once again using the superior mobility of the Flying Suit to achieve firing position, Kevvers sniped it, the shot struck true but the alien survived. Dekkarax moved out to get an angle on the ground and managed to put the beast down.

Continuing the same path, another alien was spotted further southeast.

With no-one in position to support, AceDiamond blasted this one.

Gamebrain89 took up position on the roof of the barn the aliens had hidden in, able to see into the UFO he spotted another alien and they exchanged fire.

Gamebrain89 took a glancing hit and was wounded, but the alien was killed outright.

Approaching the UFO from the east, AceDiamond spotted another alien at the ruined craft's control panel.

He laid down suppressing fire into the UFO and the creature went down in a storm of plasma.

The squad took advantage of the suppression and breached the UFO, Valiance entering through the door spotted the last living crewmember

He opened fire and the creature died.

Report Ends

----

Mission Debriefing, General McSwine

Another wounded soldier reinforces the fact that we must be cautious whilst X-Com's resources are stretched. Fortunately, Gamebrain89's wounds were not as serious as some have suffered, and he should be able to return to combat soon.

The odds that X-Com SEA will be attacked are now dangerously in the favor of the aliens, whether by luck or by tactical choice the scout came right in on top of the base and probably got a good read off the Firestorm's origin point before it was blown out of the sky.

Right now I'm running small drills in the hangar bay with the two tanks on-site. It's only a matter of time before the attack comes.

I also gave Gamebrain a bit of a visit in the Infirmiary to check up on him after the hit he took in the fight. He was a bit out of it though. Fortunately his wounds weren't as bad as the one Higs suffered a while back.

Forgive me for my abstinence from writing my thoughts recently. But things have been busy busy busy around here. Also, instead of making the regular mission debriefs in here I have taken to prayer; as I'm sure the lord will forever look over me.

But after seeing Gamebrain get winged by enemy fire today the reality was brought crashing back to me. If we perish all our records go with us; save the memories that our squad mates have. So again I record my thoughts in here, just a reality check more then anything else.

I continue to do the good work of the Lord; even more so then usual since a possible alien incursion against out Asian base site (location withheld) has lead to a redeployment of several of the more experienced members of the squad. I actually think I've been the most experienced soldiers serving on the recent missions. It doesn't matter much, as I don't see my self as a leader; just Gods grunt.

I have added another four notches to my belt these last few missions, each and everyone of them dieing in the holy purification of plasma. Never have I felt more alive then when I am doing the good lords work.

On a side note I think Hig's gets out soon, I look forward to having him back in action. He is something of a moral lifter out there on the field; and with Saul redeployed the Lord knows we need some more moral; even with our recent string of success'.

That's all for now.
The Fury of Caps, out.

Since most of the veteran agents were transferred out to the Asia base, I've been called on more to pick up some of the slack. It's actually been very good combat experience -- X-COM's ability to neutralise enemy scout aircraft has improved and as a consequence we've been sent on a lot more crash recovery missions. With these amazing new flying suits they've cooked up, mopping up the crash survivors is a piece of cake. Something tells me we'll probably need all this 'live training' before this war is over. Rumour is the aliens have discovered the location of the Asia base, I think the guys transferred over there will be seeing some action soon. It's pretty serious stuff, but those guys managed to take down fully manned battleship and an alien base in the same week. Those aliens will regret taking on X-COM, that's for sure.

X-Com Incident Report, 25th June

Another alert came in whilst the Skyranger was on the other side of the world.

Another attempt at a terror strike, taking advantage of the current disposition of forces to try and get maximum damage done before we could respond.

Obviously, we couldn't let it happen. Interceptors launched from Europe and intercepted the craft over the Russian border. Once the team returned and the skyranger refuelled, we would have the chance to take the crew out on the ground.

Whilst the interceptors were returning, the comm channel from the US squawked.

Another small craft targetting natural and biological resources to fuel the aliens' war effort. The US base launched interceptors and took out the threat.

Report Ends

----

X-Com Battle Report, UFO Crash Recovery 27

Setting down just after dawn local on the 26th of June, the Skyranger team disembarked and began operations to clean up the aliens from the downed terror vessel.

First of the ship as always was AceDiamond's hovertank, he scanned the area and spotted a Floater to the west.

Combined II followed the tank out and blasted the alien with a rocket.

The squad followed out and began to sweep the area. One of the snipers spotted a Floater to the north.

Firing from the elevated position afforded by the Flying Suit, he had no problem bringing the alien down.

Whilst the squad's attention was diverted north, a Reaper charged from the south, fortunately, Cyberoth II was on watch, and the beast was spotted.

It was efficiently dispatched.

Longshot sighted on another to the northeast.

And again it proved an easy target for trained X-Com personnel.

Another of the brutish creatures attempted to charge out of the UFO.

But Dekkarax was covering the exit, and it got no further than the door.

The exterior of the LZ was clear, the rest of the aliens were holed up in their ship. ANTX81, back from repairs on this mission, set the demolition charges and breached into the body of the vessel. Inside, it spotted a Reaper and perforated it with it's laser pistol.

The rest of the team moved in, checking the ambush points in the celings, this time they were clear. The squad moved to the elevator and checked up it, at least two floaters were waiting at the top. ANTX81 lobbed a stun bomb up to clear them out, and CAPSLOCK FURY went up to finish off the survivors.

Only one was still standing, and once it was dead, the rest of the team followed up. Since the ambush points in the celing were clear, Kevvers and the other sniper used their flying suits to turn them against the enemy.

A third alien burst into the elevator room, but stood shocked by the array of force meeting it.

Combined II, too close for his rocket launcher, blasted it with his laser pistol.

At this, the sniper team burst out of the side rooms. Kevvers immediately encountered one surprised alien and gunned it down.

The sniper on the other side took a plasma rifle hit to the chest, but the power armour held, he spotted two aliens clustered on the bridge.

He opened fire on the first, killing it, and slamming shots into the control console behind it, which exploded killing the other alien.

Report Ends

----

Mission Debriefing, General McSwine

The harrowing psychological attrition that has been imposed by the aliens' tactics of late has not undermined X-Com's vigilance. We are alert for threats against civilian populations and we will act to counter them with all our might.

----

Attachment: Alien Weapon Dossier, Plasma Pistol

The Plasma Pistol is the smallest and weakest of the aliens' weapons. Still more than a match for any of the technology we had at the start of the war, it is now a minimal threat to power armoured X-Com agents, only capable of inflicting serious damage to the thinner rear armour, and then only on a lucky hit. The aliens appear to have almost abandoned this weapon in the face of increased X-Com survivability, and as such ammunition for it is too rare to replace the Laser Pistols in current service as X-Com sidearms.

X-Com Council of Funding Nations Gold Level Clearance Required.

Presentation to Council of Funding Nations by General McSwine

Ladies and Gentlemen of the council X-Com has been in official operation for half a year now, and as part of the report presented to you on X-Com's activity for this month, we will be including eye in the sky footage of X-Com in action so you can see what your financial contributions are paying for first hand. This mission is to recover a small alien craft on resource collection duties in North America, it was shot down over the northern deserts of the Baja California peninsula in Mexico.

Here we see X-Com's SOP for deployment. A heavily armoured remote asset is guided out of the deployment craft by AceDiamond, our UCV operator working from X-Com's central base in Europe. He sweeps the area with the remote's cameras to check for ambushes and identify targets close to the LZ for the squad to engage.

As you can see, on this occasion he spots a target to the west on a ridge overlooking the skyranger. The dust thrown up by the touchdown has forced this alien, one of the Floater race, to look away and shield it's face, allowing the team to ambush it.

Next we see Cyberoth II and Combined II disembark and open fire on the alien, neither score any hits, the bulk of the skyranger and the cover of the ridge making for difficult shots. Their ranging shots pay off, however, as Dekkarax follows them out and is able to put the alien down.

Now we see a sweep confirming the immediate LZ to be clear, and the squad prepare to disperse to sanitise the local area before entering the downed vessel. Advancing south along the ridge, AceDiamond spotted another alien on the UCV's camera. We see shots coming from high up and impacting the creature, that's one of our snipers using a personal flight harness to get the angle to shoot, as you can see, the alien survives the hit, which gives us an opportunity to show you the firepower of the hovertank as AceDiamond finishes it off.

At this point in the video we hear some shots. The squad confirmed that they came from the southeast again, and we see another of X-Com science division's marvels, the Advanced Neural-net/Tactical X-Com operative type 81, a fully artificially intelligent combat agent, using it's sophisticated sensor suite to isolate and identify the firer.

The targetting co-ordinates are relayed to the team, and we see operative Valiance is best positioned to take the shot, which he does, killing the creature before it can fire again.

The LZ was clear at this point, so we'll skip ahead to where the team enter the alien vessel. These interior images are composited based on the IR signatures from the eye-in-the-sky and the team's helmet cameras. The team have used breaching charges to enter this vessel, we can see that one of the charges has blown clear through the wall and devastated the inside of the craft*, allowing the ANTX81 unit to highlight another target through the smoke, and give Dekkarax sufficient positioning detail to allow him to bring his heavy firepower to bear on the creature.

Switching over to the cameras from the team the other side of the vessel, we can see that a two-pronged assault is taking place, CAPSLOCK FURY is standing at the breach covering Longshot as he enters the door. Longshot spots an alien and brings up his weapon to fire.

His first few shots fall short, but the last one is on target, and the alien is killed.

X-Com can expect to run anywhere between four and twelve missions like this one a month, here we see the breakdown of enemy assets neutralised and seized by our agents.

These missions are the bread and butter of X-Com, they are the lowest level of operation for the aliens, and are strategically important only in their capability to cause attrition.

More significant is the aliens' strategy of late to attempt to locate and strike at X-Com facilities.

There have been ongoing attempts to locate and assault the manufacturing base in South East Asia, and now the base we still operate in the United States has a sword hanging over it as well. We have transferred one of the Firestorm interceptors to that base, hoping to destroy alien craft far enough out that they cannot locate the facility. Unfortunately, we are now sure that the South East Asia base has been located by alien scouts, and faces attack in the very near future**. A crack team of agents is waiting there, and we are as ready as we can ever be to face a direct assault.

End of Presentation

----

X-Com Monthly Performance Report, June 1999

There has been little significant alien activity this month. Instead there has been a mass of small missions aimed at causing attrition to X-Com and diverting our resources as widely as possible.

X-Com has had to maintain it's presence in numerous areas around the globe, and has aquitted it's responsibilities admirably.

Finances have remained stable, with minimal outlay on new facilities, and much manufacturing time taken up by complex items in low numbers.

In response to the increased confidence in X-Com's ability to defend the earth, the Council of Funding Nations agrees to a significant increase in X-Com funding.

*OOC Note: This blast through is due to a quirk in map design. Some UFO walls are not actually walls, they are objects, they're impassable to people, but explosions on the square they are in propagate through them. I have been avoiding doing this as much as possible, because it feels like cheating, but here the person throwing the demo charge missed the throw and it scattered into a diagonal wall.

**OOC Note: Slight shenanigans, I've deliberately allowed the aliens to find the SEA base so that the base defence mission gets played out in the next update, as that's going to be the 50th, and I felt like it needed some fireworks to celebrate ;).

Wish the UN could do something about the USA problem but no matter, they seem even more pleased with the work we've done in the past month to the point that the lack of funding from Uncle Sam is not even a problem

Latest reports come in that an assault on the Southeast Asia base is imminent. Rest has not come easy for me since that announcement. I know I'm not there in person but all the same the thought of the people I've come to know stationed there having to fight to keep our manufacturing facility intact is troublesome. Well hopefully the two hovertanks will be enough to lend very generous fire support to the team.

We must...no...we will overcome. We will show the aliens that no matter how hard they try, no matter which base they hit, we will stop them. We will stop them on our doorstep, we will stop them in our cities, we will stop them in our planet, and we will stop them on their own.

==================================
Colonel Shanks has been constantly running us through base defense drills, preparing for the inevitable. We no longer use the firing range for training, preferring instead to clear the corridors of personnel for use as a makeshift one. Said that it'd be best to practice on the actual ground we'll be fighting on. I couldn't agree more. Nonetheless, the training has been grueling.
