I was playing Shadow of the Colossus recently (very recently, it's on on the other input) and it reminded me of back when my brother still lived with me and would watch very intently as I played it. You see, he's a Call of Duty/Gears of War guy you mute on live because he's cursing in your ear (God bless Him), and occasionally he would take a stab at something from my collection. He fucking hated it. The controls, the jumping, repeatedly falling off the Colossi, there being nothing to fight in the open world, etc. But he loved watching it, taking in the beauty of the scenery and getting to admire the the Colossi actually being colossal and pointing out fruit trees and lizards without the burden of controlling Wander.
Another one all this caused me to remember was when my sister and her boyfriend came up with the idea to have me do a Silent Hill 1-4 marathon from upon waking until bed (the sleeping didn't happen). Both of them were pants at survival horror games from what they told me, but after watching some of Silent Hill 2 they wanted to see it all from the beginning because they loved the atmosphere, the actual horror, and the emotional impact of the story. I'll probably never forget that day, as they pointed out clues to the puzzles I had forgotten, and got to fulfill a horror movie dream of yelling "Don't open that door, he'll fucking kill you!" and have the protagonist actually respond.
Anyways, do you have any memories like the ones above? Any games you don't care about playing but could/have enjoyed watching? As great as youtube let's plays' are, there's something personal, an energy that can't be replicated over the internet. I'd love to hear your stories.
