Hell why not, walking through HMV on Saturday, picked it up for £2.99, something to fill in the time, but actually to my surprise this game is highly entertaining and appeals to me.
So start the game off were introduced to this black and white, comic book style world of "Jefferson Island" where all is brutal and bloody as the 'Killseekers' strive for the next slab of meet to slaughter. Then along comes protagonist Jack, built like a brick shit house and well...that says it all, outs a guy in one and gets a sponsor then BOOM into the game we go.
So we start off on like a training level where "XIII" talks us through the basics and the moving up. So after getting comfortable we progress into are own free control, so I think I'l focus on just one level for now. First off though, the game feels like it could only work on the Wii to me, I mean you could have put it on the bigger boys (360, PC, PS3) but I feel it would loose its entertainment value of swinging you're controller around to slice shit up.
Lets focus on Asian town, this was a personal favourite, GOT NINJA'S! The level was rather well constructed but in all fairness there isn't too much to cover across the levels, a few stories but none the less there well done. The game works well in black, white and red, it emphasises the gore factor which is as we know the whole appeal of the game, best bit it contains inter textual reference to Frank Millers 'Sin City' seemingly as the games graphics were inspired by it. The bus within Asia town also amused me as it was you're own portable slaughterhouse on wheels, which made you giggle as you impale ninja's with funny things previously impaled within them, perfectly okay to enjoy video game violence...right? Of course!
This game does entertain in all the right areas, covering from replay value to sound. Sound wise we have these well selected hip-hop tracks slamming away along with celebrity commentators which continually rip each other and make constant crude remarks give us all good laugh. Right, on too replay value, the game isn't too difficult but there's a few pieces which challenge that of the players skill and wits... The boss fights, THERE BIGGER THAN YOU, HIT AND RUN BOY! That is my own theory on it. So yeah it's a good balance really if you think about it, simple enemy's which you may slaughter among the masses and then we have the Bloodbath Challenge, oh the excitement! A short little mini game which involves... you guessed it! More slaughtering! then we have the boss fights, there usually bigger than you and have cool crazy ass things and you have... a chainsaw, hell if this was realism you would of won five minutes ago, but its not so SLICE SLICE SLICE! Then paint the city in pints of glorious blood. Last but not least, the Multiplayer, its a two player deathmatch on the same console, it would have been nice to see more features or an online function covering the same thing or a co-op feature but a split screen two player is better than nothing. This is the end boys and girls so, if this sucked, I apologise but other than that, I say go pick up this game for next to nothing if you already haven't a giggle away at the silly workings of the glory that is SEGA!
