A couple of uncomfortable facts about the first series of Power Rangers.
The black and yellow rangers were played by played by an African American and Vietnamese-American respectively.
Said yellow ranger, played by actress Thuy Trang, was male in the original japanese series.
Thuy Trang died 8 days before the World Trade Center bombings. Green Ranger actor Jason David Frank could not attend the funeral because his brother died during the same week.
David Yost, who played the blue ranger Billy, eventually left the show due to the near-constant abuse he received for being homosexual.
