I liked it, though the second half was a lot worse than the first half. If you've watched it then you should know why.

it's pretty good. i have the full manga series, however it's far from perfect. it's hard to understand for some people, personally i had to read it twice to understand everything, and later it just gets weird. like i said, i like death note, but there are way better manga's, like one piece or tsubasa chronicles. (personal opinion)
What parts, exactly, were hard to understand?

personally, i didn't find it to hard to understand, only a few thing i had to read once more to understand what they were saying. but my brother had to read it three times before he understood anything during the camera "fight"

Likable and realistic? Your joking right? Light is an idiot douchebag who thinks he's a super genius who's going to rule the world as a god. Oh yeah, also he's attractive...and good at sports...and good with the ladies and....well he's pretty much good at everything, especially being a twat.

L is a teenager who is smarter than everyone in the world except for Light with whom he is equal.

Misa is dumber than bricks and it just goes on and on, I found the regular detectives to be the best characters in the show (though really I didn't mind L and Near I suppose)

Sorry to say but likable and realistic aren't the first words that leap into my mind when I think of Death Note characters

I watched AND read the entire series through, I gave it plenty of chances because I had heard such good things and while I found the manga was at least okay, the anime is just downright EMBARRASSING to watch. Like, my god the montages of people dying were laughable and ridiculous it was really overdone, with the dramatic music and the overemphasized pen strokes and occasionally even more ridiculous things like that stupid potato chip scene which I personally think is the dumbest scene I have ever seen in an anime in my entire life. I understand that they were trying to convey that Light's feeling of power while writing the names down, but it still occurred to me as over the top, but not really in a good way.

But the WORST thing about Death Note, is that it pretends to be a thinkers anime, this really annoys me, not 5 seconds can go by without Light or L explaining what the hell it is that they're planning, or what they just did, or what they're going to do, or what they think the other person is thinking. This is NOT good story-telling, This is spoon-feeding. The whole series' is like that one scene from The Princess Bride with the poisoned goblets, only instead of realizing how ridiculous it is, they take it VERY VERY SERIOUSLY. I understand that some of the scenes of exposition are necessary and that's fine, but I think the whole series could have greatly benefited from letting the audience figure out what was going on, instead of flat-out telling them, considering that the series has a horror-like aesthetic I think an air of mystery could have really elevated the whole experience and indeed made it darker and vastly better. I'd even go so far as to say that the show would probably been a lot better if L was the Protagonist from the start and done from his perspective primarily, while only switching to Light's perspective when necessary.

Though to be fair, as the series went on I do feel it got better, and I actually like both the ending in the manga and anime, but overall I certainly could live without Death Note.

Also Light is a twat.

I love deathnote, it was a great manga and anime, at least for the first half. When near came along, it definitely took a turn for the worse.
Personally, i preferred the way the movie ended things.
There is more to it, but this was all i could find, damn youtube xD

The fight between L and Light, you mean?

First half was good, got shit after L died.
I used to really like the show as a whole, but the more I watch over it, the more I think that it's just...Not as good as all the uber-fans make it out to be, seriously, it's decent but it's not the messiah of all anime.

Frankly, I prefer Monster in terms of logical plot, character development, maturity and just general...Awesomeness.
It's similar to Death Note, just a thousand times better.

You had me sold at catgirls. What is this Asobi Ni Iku Yo about?
This catgirl
named Eris, who is part of an alien race from the planet Catia, is sent to Earth to learn about our culture. She meets a boy named Kio and after a short series of events, moves in with him. He and a few others then begin protecting Eris from several enemies (who I won't spoil for you). It's still an ongoing series (it's only on episode 8), but lots and lots of hilariously unpredictable events have already occurred. This includes more catgirls arriving, and the establishment of Kio's house as an embassy of Catia. I love it.

Awesome.

EDIT: First episode link http://www.watchanimeon.com/asobi-ni-iku-yo-episode-1/
Thank ye very much, i will try it later today.

The only good thing about Death Note is L. Light was an arrogant prick who had no redeeming qualities what so ever. And it got really dull about half way through.

I liked it I guess, but I kinda got tired of Light. His evilness always seemed a little over the top (I'll take a potato chip and eat it anyone?). I did like L though, he was eccentric and clever and in my opinion made the show (along with ryuk of course, ryuk was awesome) up until the point where (SPOILER WARNING) L died. I kinda lost interest in the second season after that happened.

I picked up the series and liked it but there's quite a lot of flaws. My current favourite series is Bakuman and in comparison, it's far better.

But like anything decent, the fans ruined it.

I think it's fantastic up to around the half-way point (those who've watched it know what I'm referring to). After that it was OK, but not nearly as good as the first half. I still bought the entire series on DVD though, so it's really worth watching. I love the way they're going about "I knew you would do that, so I did this." "But I knew you knew I would do that, so I did this instead!"

Uhg, as much as I hate to perpetuate an anime thread...

For me personally Death note was arguably the most enjoyable anime I had seen in the last decade.

That is, much as the consensus states, till L was killed off. Had they ended the series just after that, it would have been great, and perhaps even give a glimmer of hope for my lost faith in anime. But instead we were left with an atypical anime falling prey to the golden anime cliche of if its even remotely popular we must pummel the horse till its eyes ooze out its anus.

Haven't seen the animé, but I've read the manga series. It was amazing up to number 7 (you all know what I mean), and then it sort of... died, a little. Still good though.

yup, that one. he had a ton of trouble with understanding things like lights actions and "L"s reactions. almost made him stop reading.

Great series I only read the manga but the only problem I have is that L died and his heirs could never replace him.

Death Note is decent, it had potential and it was good for some time but after L died it crashed and burned.. it just went all over the place and it was way too exaggerated.

Still there is no point comparing it to Bleach and Naruto since they are different genres and even in their own genre Bleach and Naruto are both average, there's nothing great or special about either, they're just popular.

I love Death Note! I have the entire series as well! It's up there with my favorite anime shows I like Case Closed the most (I love detective stories!!!). But yeah I found Death Note at the worst possible time. Last May during finals week, I was watching shows that I could find on YouTube instead of studying (still did good though). When I got back home I used our Best Buy coupons to get the first volume on DVD. Showed my sister them and the first thing out of her mouth when she was done watching them was "WE HAVE TO GET THE SECOND VOLUME!!!!!" I'm always getting her hooked on anime!!!

I liked it, but I hated that everyone but me loves L. L was an amusing character, but most of his conclusions even though correct, were completely illogical. I would've suspected many other things and probably never guessed that the killer was just one person. For example for Lind L. Tailor, someone could've just poisoned him before the event. And maybe the cause of deaths could've been diseases circulating criminal gangs. When anyone gets a heart attack, even criminals, your first thought is NEVER "Someone is killing these people". And who would ever think that someone could control their victims before death? All of L's conclusions only make sense if he has already dealt with Death Notes. I think L suffers as a character because the writer overestimated whatever clues there were. However, I did love the series, Light beig my favourite character and very relatable, but he does lose some rdeemable value when he says he'll be God. If he just said God as greatest pwoer, that'd be ok, but God sounds too arrogant. I do find it annoying that everyone hates the anime ending, because I believe it makes it fair to fans no matter what side they were on. I also find it annoying that people think Light was jsut always crazy rather than the Death Note making him crazy towards the end.
