Recently I reinstalled Deus Ex a.k.a. Best game ever made by anyone ever. After finishing it for the 8th time I decided to Download the sequel to it. Which is basically well horrible if you liked the first one chances are you aren't going to like the second. It was dumbed down for the console crowd don't try to deny it. Recently (2 years ago) they announced Deus Ex 3 I peed a little and then noticed that it too would be released on consoles. Basically What I'm asking is are Devs screwing themselves over by trying to make games that work cross platform like that? Consoles are pretty much interchangeable (I know the fanboys will complain that their console is best but it's just games not really a hardware thing. Are games that have great potential for the PC only crowd being screwed up by being released for everyone?

Devs aren't screwing themselves over - making a game for more platforms means more money for the devs from the publishers. If anything, it is the complete opposite.

As for the idea of PC games getting screwed by consoles: Bullshit.

If a game is good, it is good. If it gets watered down its not because its on a console as well, but more likely due to time constraints - which, surprisingly, are barely effected by multi-platform development.

Well, Eidos specifically stated that the "New Deus Ex Won't Be "Dumbed Down" For Consoles" [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/86958]

Though I'm trying not to get my hopes up, in fear that they would only be crushed.

Please, don't feed the troll.

You must resist the temptations of that incredible amount of flame-bait in the original post.

Devs are only looking to expand the market. For every copy of Deus Ex 3 that is not sold on the PC because someone think it is too simplistic, there is another person buying it on the 360 and PS3. In short, they are trying to run a business here and make money, not care about the people who care about their products.

What for one person is flame bait, for the other is a possible thing to really worry about. I myself am a fervent PC gamer. I never owned a console besides the NES and gameboy. I actually do feel that sometimes PC games are 'screwed over' because of consoles. Some concepts just work better on consoles than on PC's. One time it's a minor thing, like just the menu's. Other times the whole games feels unnatural because of awkward controls. Often the developer is not given the time to properly adapt their game to make it in a proper fashion, which is really a shame.

How is Deus Ex, or any other non-RTS, more suitable for PCs than consoles? I can't see why it would be, so this whole debate stalls at the starting line.

Companies like money, companies get more of it if more people buy their game

I'm not saying its a bad thing. For some games it works. Look at left 4 dead and FFXI works for them, I'm just saying for other games maybe not.

First off I'm not strictly a PC gamer I would go ape shit if Nintendo came out today and said they decided that every new Zelda game is going to be on the PC from now on. Certain games belong on certain consoles.

Why do you believe you are in any position to judge which platform is best for any given title?

I believe you just went "ape shit" by deciding to make this thread.

I maintain that, due to the complete lack of sense you make, this thread must be trollery.

Well, well shame on me for coming in to YOUR forum and posting a topic that is DIRECTLY related to you. If you don't like whats being posted don't post. If you post in the thread it gets bumped. If you don't like whats being said go in to a different thread and complain there.

Are you really wilfully derailing your own thread?
Perhaps you should closely examine the phrasing of your first sentence. Please do not use 'you' in such a vague and broad sense; it is just nonsense.

As for responding to this thread in the first place, it is justified by ohers responding to it.

I dislike this thread because it does not engage the community in a positive way at all. It simply provides flame bait and convinces me that you are little more than a troll.

If I'm a troll aren't you feeding the troll by responding?

Alright fine, if you really want my opinion....

Any person who uses the term console tards is simply demonstrating their own thickheadedness. You're confusing correlation with causation.

When a company decides to make a game on consoles as well as the PC, they are doing this because they want to reach more people. At the same time, they will be reducing the complexity and difficulty in order to not alienate a lot of people, including a large amount of PC gamers. Porting to consoles and reduced complexity are both effects of trying to reach a wider audience, one is not the direct cause of the other.

Its pretty fucking simple.
Thank you for giving a good response, But does a decrease in complexity and difficulty really seem warranted. I'm using Deus Ex as an example because I can't think of another one off the top of my head. The first game was great, most can agree on that. The Second, pretty shitty. What I'm trying to get at is the whole if it ain't broke don't fix it. That drop is complexity and difficulty might have reached more people (I'm not 100% on the numbers I think they're actually fairly close) but really hurt the game a great deal. Personally I'm very nervous about the next game from the things I've heard they are trying to get back to the source material but they are still dropping the difficulty a notch further. Why not make a little less money right off the bat and make a truly great game that I'm sure will sell more in the long run.

True enough I suppose. Right now I am derailing this thread as much as you.

That is a huge non-sequitor.
