Let's talk about pens

Mechanical pencils. MECHANICAL PENCILS.

You will never need anything else in your whole goddamn life. For drawing, I like the thin ones (0.3mm), the thick ones are for writing (0.9mm) and the ones in the middle are great for both. (0.5)

For normal school I use mechanical pencils because fuck pencil sharpeners. Those things are pure evil, making the loudest noises while only sharpening your pencil after it takes off about a third of the length. No way, not anymore. For more fun things I try to use a purple pen. So pretty!

I like using pencils, especially mechanical ones. When I write I tend to prefer writing with pencil and paper instead of a pen or keyboard. I never really liked pens. Mainly because if I mess up I can't erase it.

I prefer rollerball pens to ballpoint pens. Much more fluid writing, and with the 0.5mm tip, it looks better to me too
EDIT: I rather despise touch screen keyboards. I would sooner write with a quill and ink than a touch screen...it would probably be faster and with fewer mistakes too *take that Apple autocorrect*

It was an amazing pen and the ink lasted for ages too. Also it was a nice little gamer thing to use as well.

I had one of those but without the Zombrex branding on it.
My dad gave it to me after going to a plastic convection or something.

I'm a bit of a "snob" when it comes to my writing. As such I only use Fountain Pens .... a sterling silver fountain pen to be exact.

Me too! I'm a big fountain pen fan, I've got seven different ones and double that number for how much ink I've got. I get a load of flak for it, but whatever. I can't stand using ballpoint pens.

Indulge me here for a second here.

A brand new, just opened in fact, fountain pen is filled to capacity with warm (or hot though I don't recommend it)ink. You fill it to almost bursting limits. You put the cover back on and the pen waits, and waits, and waits, and then waits some more.... Then you take off the cover and very gently and slowly put the pen upon the pure white page................. Where upon the the slight friction just discharges the warm, warm ink upon the paper, soiling it forever more...

Sorry about that had the urge to write that.

So a fountain pen, I guess.

Though it's probably fairly outdated now with people using their fancy ipads and sending messages from phones ressembling small computers, i still have a thing for fountain pens.

They feel really awesome when you're in a full writing flow and something about the ink makes what you write much classier then using yer average BIC pen (which i like for their cheapness and reliability, they are the Ak47s of the pen world), smudging a bit of ink is but a small price to pay.

Only time I ever use pencil is for marking TLC plates, seeing as it's verboten in lab books.

Otherwise I go with Staedler triplus for writing and Uniball signo for lab work (the ink's damn near impossible to smudge when dry, and acetone-safe, which is crucial around undergrads).

I am a huge fan of typing, and later printing it. My handwriting is rather messy, and type has better font options.

I'm not that big on pens, as they are hard to erase and such. Also, this:

That whole page you linked was pure comedy gold. Just thought I should let you know.

OT: I've always wanted a fancy, "lasts for years" kind of pen, but I never have the time or money to go look for one.

That said, I typically prefer pens to pencils, and prefer gel pens to ballpoints.

I had this pen that looked like a clicky top but actually had a cap that you had to remove, and it was quite possibly the greatest pen in the universe. When an annoying customer decided to pay with a check and demanded a pen (even though filling out checks is a waste of time at the store in which I work) I would hand them that pen, and then try to keep a straight face while they tried to figure it out. The best part is that it wasn't a trick pen or anything, it just wasn't very well thought out, so I always got away with it. I could sit there and watch them from the corners of my eyes while they tried desperately to get the clicky mechanism (that wasn't there) to work.

The best part was that often people couldn't figure it out, and would hand it back to me. I would give them a silent look that said "... you need help with a pen?" and then just pull the cap off like it was the easiest thing in the universe. It was always really tempting to put on my best Alfred the Butler snarky voice and say something like "is that pen giving you trouble, sir?" But I never did it. That one might've blown my cover.

Unfortunately it ran out of ink, and I haven't found one like it since. My guess is that the company removed it from production after one too many morons called them in desperation because they couldn't figure out how to use a pen.

For all my personal writing and sketching needs however, I used mechanical pencils. And if I'm adding actual drawn elements to any of my work I'll used Derwent Colorsoft pencils.

I disagree. I think that if you are not doing your math in pen, you are doing it wrong.
Personally, I never want to erase my math work, as I sometimes need to reference my previous work, or continue it when I realize I had the right idea the whole time.

As for writing utensil, I usually use a Pilot Gel ink pen.

I would love to use a fountain pen or a rollerball pen, as they are a lot more fun to use and a lot smoother to use. However, they bleed through the paper easily, so I have to use gel ink or dry ink. But I use pen for almost all of my writing.

For writing that cannot have mistakes in them, I usually use a mechanical pencil.
