I found a ton of new music that I've been enjoying quite a bit.

The Cubs winning the World Series. I'm not a Cubs fan, they're not even my team, but I really enjoyed watching them in the series. My grandfather was a Cubs fan, and I think if he was still alive he would have lost his shit seeing them win. Man, that was a fun series.

I graduated from college, and I'm applying to a few places for grad school. I'm pretty optimistic about my chances of getting in too, and one of which is in Canada.

I spoke to a professor that was visiting my college and she was telling me about this two month robotics summer program that she wants to start up. She wants to pair up with a few colleges and, if things go well with it actually happening, she's inviting me to come along and get involved. It's in Australia, and I don't know how that's gonna work out, but I'm hoping that I get a chance to do it.

Also, The Last Guardian came out.

I is happy. :D

I re-connected with a long time friend who I'd...well, I won't mince words, I'd fucked things up with for several years.

Mother Russia Bleeds, which wasn't the full beat em up Nirvana I hoped, but was still very good and made me hopeful for whatever Le Cartel has in the future.

I find it interesting that as a Jew you are happy for a leader that is supported by the KKK and Neo-Nazis.

But OT- I got to go to Mexico this year for free, got a promotion at work. Uh...movies were good.

Deadpool killed a lot of people and was awesome.

Zootopia made me feel warm and fuzzy.

Rogue One had me literally shaking in my seat once the final battle started, and I actually cheered/screamed when Red and Gold Leaders showed up.

My friend finally got a PS4 and we've been walking him through Bloodborne for the platinum. It's funny because he's terrified of the game.

I finally get to play a Shantae game on a system I own, and I love her.

Every time I put out a new chapter on one of my stories, several people leave comments about how much they love it.

Earned several platinum trophies for my PS4, including Star Wars Battlefront and Divinity: Original Sin--which remains my rarest trophy.

My Amazon review ranking finally got back below the 100,000 pool.

Arrival was great outside of one minor plot point I didn't care for.
Denis Villeneuve has gone on my must see list, along with Chris Nolan. I have liked all his movies, and Arrival was pretty darn good. Was the part you're talking about
When she has to be told what to say by the chinese general?

It is kinda weird in a time related movie. You would think that she would know, if it is the future. It seemed to me that she is able to look into the future and get answers for past events for that future to come true. Like the language, it is flowing into one another, err, everything is one, therefore it isn't really the future because everything is happening at once. Time isn't being seen chronologically like we see it.

It seemed like she could see different futures, where her choices in the present would change the future. But also the future influenced her choices in the present.
I remember her having the conversation with her daughter, and the daughter was trying to think of the zero sum theorem, but she didn't know. Then the shot shows the daughter walk up the stairs. But then we see that event take place again, however, before the daughter walks up the stairs, she remembers and tells her that it is called the zero sum theorem.
So it shows that she has choice, and that the future isn't set in stone. Which makes her choice to still have her daughter despite knowing what will happen, much more powerful.

The thing I got out of the movie was that you should enjoy the journey. She knew her daughter would die, but she chose to have a child anyway because that child will have an affect on the world, though small it may be. Kinda like what that new Planescape game is trying to do, what does one life matter?

Went on a tangent, but I really enjoyed this movies idea!
I've only seen his Arrival and Sicario right now. I guess I'll have to check out his other movies.

The one part I didn't care for at all was the part where they decided to bomb the ship, which just felt out of place.

I'd have to watch the movie again to see if all the time stuff works out as that's the one thing that sorta puzzled me afterwards was whether the time stuff does work out. I kinda hate most stories involving time like I'm not a fan of the Terminator storyline and hated Interstellar's time paradox (what we do has no consequences as future humans will just save us!). I'm thinking the way the aliens are described probably gets around any time paradoxes and logic.

Prisoners (Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhal) is super good.
Enemy (Jake Gyllenhal) is strange, but I enjoyed it.

I have actually been on a Jake Gyllenhal movie watch, he has become one of my favourite actors. I have watched most of his recent movies. Still got to see Southpaw. Heard it was cliche, but just want to see his performance.

I think it was just supposed to be a cliche, humans feel scared, humans make a rash decision involving violence.
You can see as the movie goes along, how some soldiers feel like they should do something. They hear the news about how the aliens are offering a weapon, and they get all defensive and think they should attack. But obviously we know they are just meatheads.

Okay okay, yes. 2016 sucked, and there was a lot of really bad stuff, deaths, and so on that happened in it.

So... how about we pull back and talk about a few GOOD things that happened in 2016? There WERE some good things after all.

As a few starters...

Deadpool. The movie came out, and it was actually good and accurate to the character, most successful R-rated movie of all time.

The Cubs. They won the World Series, breaking a near-century-long drought. And even if they'd lost, another team would have done the same. And a seven-game series I think too, so that was going to be good regardless.

Zootopia. Probably bringing it up due to the Furry in me, but outside the Furry side it was still a pretty good movie. Inside the furry side, it was something the fandom hasn't seen in years: a movie revolving around anthros that was actually really good. It was good all around there.

VR. It has really started taking off, even peeking into the general public a bit. It may not be super-affordable, but people are finally able to immerse themselves into virtual worlds, something that has always been considered part of THE FUTURE. It is now today.

The Last Guardian. Despite it having a... mixed reception, a long-desired game has finally been released, and many have fallen in love with the characters and creatures of it.

What about you guys? What other positive things have you seen or heard about? I only ask that you not make a depressing "Well at least I'm alive..." comment. We don't need that sarcasm.
Most agree with that

Well, I got a job I enjoy thanks to the people I work with, one of which is a total cutie that likes giving me hugs, so I'm cautiously hopeful about that.

Yeah, it just felt out of place to me. Plus, anyone with any knowledge of how deciphering the alien language was going (like the president) knows there's not much certainty with the working theories of what everything means. You'd think humanity and at least the leaders calling the shots would be above that. If any aliens did come here, they'd be so far past us technologically that we wouldn't stand a chance. Why would you do anything to provoke seemingly peaceful aliens even if you thought it was an act?

Music, or more specifically metal-wise, this was a pretty damn amazing year overall:

- Korn actually released a decent album for a change that legit felt like their good old style and not just a money-making throwback.
- Periphery released a damn fantastic new album which I got to see in action live
- Norma Jean brought out their most mature and best album yet
- Slice the Cake brought out whats essentially death metal Shakespeare and it absolutely blew my mind

Other than that, we finally got Final Fantasy XV and the Last Guardian and both turned out not bad. And more Jojo's Bizarre Adventure.

And this year a woman I randomly met on a train two years ago turned out to be the love of my life, and its honestly the last person I would've expected it to be too but heck, I wouldn't exchange her for anyone in the world.

These are my personal positive stuff in 2016-

My brother got marry which I hoped they don't get divorced (they do get along well so no worry in a discord in the relationship) since that will only make 2016 more bad.

Nickeledon new shows The Loud House premier this year! That show is my ray of hope of this year since the last time I became so invested into a show in a short amount of time was Gravity Falls and MLP:FiM! Seriously I ADORE The Loud House so much!

One of my closet friends actually visit me over here! The reason why nobody has visited me til now over here simply cos it is MILES away from where they lived! They just moved to Wales a few months ago so they are now alot closer to me. Seriously I appriacted them visiting me unlike one of my other mates. Shame they did visited me sooner cos we could had did some bowling!

Hyper Light Drifter came out this year. Of all the indie related games I want to be out soon, HLD finally paid off!

- I graduated, and found a job in my field that couldn't fit my future plans any better. Pays well too.
- The piles of WH40k in my apartment keep getting higher and higher, but I'm just glad I can finally indulge in the hobby as much as I please (moneywise of course).
- Discovered Rick and Morty, which is now my favorite series of all time.
- Ummm...
- That's it?
- Honesly I thought I had more

All in all there wasn't that much standing out about this year for me. Not terrible by any means, but apart from my graduation this year was pretty uneventful. Even the EDM festival I went to Estonia for wasn't that special, though I blame that on the unbelievably shitty weather and organization there.

Well, I got a car. One that I actually like for once. Not a real high point though, I only got it because a drunk kid smashed into my old car while it was in my driveway. So some poor kid got injured, then all the stuff you have to go through when you get a DUI... all so I could get a new car. His insurance paid out about 10 times what I would have sold it to someone for (no wonder rates are always going up) so basically I fleeced everyone who has that auto insurance carrier.

And...

and...

uh...

Nope, 2016 just sucked.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE on the Wii U is the kind of JRPG I've been waiting to play on a console for a really long time. Not necessarily because I've been waiting for a JRPG based on and rooted in J-POP and Japanese idol culture but because it has a really fun, really engaging turn-based combat system. I really like the plot and the characters too but I haven't had this much fun with a turn-based JRPG since Dragon Ball Z: Attack of the Saiyans. I played Xenoblade Chronicles X but I just don't like the MMO-style combat system that console JRPGs have been using seemingly since the PS2 days. It has a stupid name but TMS#FE was my favorite console game this year, from this year.

This was also the year when I got my hands on a copy of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, which I need to put more time into but which has charmed the Hell out of me.

Gaming aside, Deadpool and Captain American 3: Civil War were both really good, Justice League Action looks INCREDIBLY promising and, (despite not having seen it yet) Batman: Return of the Caped Crusader looks like the best Batman movie not just of this year but of the past several years.

Speaking of Batman, DC Rebirth has been excellent so far. I haven't read too much but Titans, New Teen Titans and Deathstroke have been fantastic. DC Bombshells is another series that I would strongly recommend too though I think that started last year.
