I wouldn't be surprised if Gaddafi is nowhere NEAR Tripoli. Hell I wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't even in the country! Look at totalitarian regimes in the past; Idi Amin, Pol Pot, even Saddam Hussein. At the first sign of an armed force the dictator who constantly claims to 'go down fighting with his people' ups-sticks and heads for the hills.

He's probably just going to get replaced by another dictatorship, probably a muslim one.

You really shouldn't be so assuming, it doesn't help matters at all. You also need to remember that Libya under Gaddafi WAS a Muslim dictatorship, just not a Jihadist one.

Maybe the UK can get in on this action "a state based on freedom, not fear; democracy, not dictatorship; the will of the many, not the whims of a few." I wouldn't mind some of that!

I wonder if it will cause other (if there are any) countries to rise up and crush there dictatorship and I don't mean like the joke I made above, I mean serious dictators.

Well it already happened with Tunisia and Egypt before Libya even got started, and there are widespread uprisings against President Assad of Syria, but for the moment he still has pretty much full control. Mainly because the protesters in Syria refuse to resort to violence and refuse the help of NATO, but Assad has no qualms about using tanks and airstrikes to wipe out the protesters.

Iran had a crack at it for a while, but I think they've pretty much given up, and there was some shit going down in Bahrain but I haven't heard any more developments on that for ages so I assume it came to nothing.

Quick update on the situation this morning:

Obama has said (tweeted actually - He's a hip President) Gadhafi needs to acknowledge the reality that he no longer controls #Libya. He needs to relinquish power once and for all.(sic)

The Rebel's Leader has promised they want to take Gaddafi alive so he can stand trial in Libya.

Tripoli (The Nation's Capital) is now in running battles, with the Rebel's controlling 80% of the city. Forces loyal to Gaddafi have surrounded the Palace. Gaddafi himself...nowhere to be seen.

Green Square will be re-named Martyr's Square, as it was originally known.

I do believe last I checked with someone from the country, NATO getting involved just made things worse and to be very frank, the people of Libya didn't actually have that bad a life under this particular dictator.

With no direct link, I can't tell if the Libyan's have been mistreated - but they're certainly cheering the Rebels onto victory. Decide for yourself.

The whole thing about the 'Gold Dinos' makes me think twice though. Gaddafi is a mad man. But you can't deny the timing is just a little suspect. He's been committing crimes for years. Why only take a military interest now?

News the next day: Rebel forces slaughtered in attack on extremely well protected Gaddafi stronghold.

Well I dont know about that, the government security forces have been surrendering in large numbers, and the rebels are closing in on Gaddafi's compound.

Really depends on your definition. I was going with the main push to reclaim Tripoli. You could equally say that the Rebellion has been going since the coup d'etat in '69.

He has not been killed yet. He most likely will fight until the very end, which is very imminent. But your title is misleading.

Only retaining 20% of your capital city is almost certainly a "Fall". Had he been taken down, I would have changed it to "Fallen" or similar.

Most of their forces aswell as support from Nato aswell as their closest thing to a standing goverment aswell as their communication is in Misrata. I would say its a good bet to say the rebellion officialy started in 2011 when Misrata fell out of Quaddafi control.

It looks like Gaddafi's fall is imminent, the rebels control 95 percent of Tripoli [http://news.yahoo.com/diplomat-rebels-control-95-percent-tripoli-090717716.html]. I think its only a matter of time before Gaddafi's forces are crushed and he is captured. Good for the rebels, lets hope something positive will come from this rebellion. As Nietzsche said, "He who fights monsters should see to it that he himself does not become a monster." We can only hope that the leaders who raise from this revolution are fair and just, and seek the betterment of their people and their society.
