I have plenty of spare time.

A standard post takes less than a minute for me.

It depends on what type of person you are. I am more of a lurker, I will hang back and skim threads I think are interesting but i will not automatically post on them unless i see someone whit a completely asinine statement that I cannot let slide.

I don't think you can really tell just from post counts. I come here almost daily when I'm bored, but I'm not really big on posting in most threads unless it interests me. Other people may come on here as much as I do, but are more willing to share their opinions on a wider variety of issues.

Not to mention, just because you're on the escapist doesn't mean you can't be doing other things at the same time. Most of my Escapist time is when I'm already on the PC for another reason (wasting time while I should be doing school work on the computer has been a big part of why I'm posting more. The more work I have to do, the more I waste time!)

It's just a stereotype.

I have school, I do my homework, I hang out with friends. I have a life. Same with Furburt.
And yet i see both of you post here day and night.Even when it's 2 A.M.
What can I say, I'm pro at multitasking.
So you hang out with friends in school, doing your homework and posting all at the same time?
No, I don't post here when I'm with friends. But I do when I do my homework. Keeps me from losing my sanity.

Although in school when it gets boring I might log in via my iPhone and post a bit.

Is it a logical conclusion that these people who gain rapid post counts in a short time are lacking what is rather unscientifically called a life or is there more to it?. It is just a stereotype?. Again I don't mean to offend anyone, just genuinely curious as to what you all think.
I think it's more of a question of posting comfort rather than lack of other factors. I'm currently between college semesters, have no job, and sit at home practically all day. However, my average post-per-day was higher when I was a full time student, had a part-time job, and before there were user groups. The reason for this is that there were more threads I wanted to have something to say in.

As this post should also explain, I do have a bit of an obsession with larger posts. I'll avoid posting completely if I can't find enough to say to justify posting in a thread, or see that someone else has said what I would. So even though I've been here for a long time (relative to some), and have "no life," my post count is still relatively low. It's just a personality thing for me.

So, to answer the opening post directly, I don't think a high post count is indicative of no life. I think that higher post counts indicate, to me, active participation in Forum Games, RPs, and/or User Groups, and probably a personally-justified opinion for a lot of threads.

And if that theory pans out then I most have the most of a life out of anyone here, less than 900 posts in 4 years? Epic.
Although since you don't have the Landmark badge, I do wonder how much of your posting is done in short bursts, and long periods of radio silence...

A bit off topic, for which I apologize, but I'd like to indulge some curiosity. This post seems to suggest that you feel yourself, and Furburt, are under fire for your posting habits. Even if this post may have been implied that you were the targets, it's just as easy that someone like pimpeter2, MaxTheReaper, or Neonbob were being isolated as well. It strikes me as somewhat paranoid.

Do you feel like you're being singled out by the community? Negatively so especially?

What the hell is a social life?

I'm a lonely gamer 'till the end!

Speaking of which, I'm off to play Mass Effect to establish a save data before the sequel.

And really wish that I could romance Tali.

I go on here loads so I don't have a life but I post infrequently. People who get into the community groups and stuff tend to get higher counts. I figure I'll hit 2k next month some time.

Maybe I am a little paranoid, but yes, it feels like some people target us. Me and Furburt have involuntarily become "famous" here, and it seems that some people blame us for being bad examples for new users, as well as having posts that aren't meeting their standards.

I don't think the community singles us out, just some people. It's both insulting and hurtful.

if it werent the case, then why dont i hear people in restraunts saying, "hang on a second love, just gotta finish typing this on The Escapist Forums"
or in the cinema, "oh crap, what did i miss? i was too busy posting on The Escapist Forums"
or next door "sorry i cant tonight, im posting on The Escapist Forums"

in order to post, you pretty much have to be bored and alone. those with lots of posts combined to their low time as a member, are more bored and alone than people without.

Putting it bluntly I am asking if there is a connection between users with a massive post count and mere joblessness on the internet
No. Some people could kind of consider mine high and I have college full time and a part time job.

Ive been here 6 months, I gained the first 2k of my post i got in the first...3 months or so. I can post at quite a rate when im in my flow, But still.

I do have a life, quite a varied one, but i also work a stupid number of hours (regularly 60 hour weeks) and i can get on here at work.

recently ive had a bit of revival of posting anyway.

So what you're saying is instead of hanging around the forum all the time I'm out living my life?

I think that was exactly my point. "Long periods of radio silence" is me not being here posting, and instead being elsewhere doing other stuff.

Postomng doesn't take very long so i ams ure that you can have a high post count and a life surely, I come on the escapist everyday and post around 5 times but which does not take very long at all so I am sure that the people with high post counts just take a little longer than me.

Considering how long I've been here vs. How piss-awkward it is to find something worth posting on, yeah, I do feel that some of you are a little over-the-top....

Yeah, I'm lookin' at you, Irish.
