A quick queston. What would it be like to be a human turned into a combine soldier? I imagine that you would be a little blind to the world outside your city, and not be able to think on your own. Like you decide what your going to eat, but you can't think to deeply on why your hunting down "Gordon Freeman." So in short, your in a way, not a FREEMAN. HAHAHAAHAHAhahaha...ha.

Ahah...ahum... *cough* (You do realise that joke is made like 1000000 times in the game?)

I imagine it's more painful than that. Seeing inside Nova Prospekt n all with those crazy alien looking dudes. I think it's probably quite a poor life to live.

Well, I think the transformation is extremly painful, but after that you feel ok. In a new person with little free will sort of way.

I was under the impression that the regular Combine soldiers and above were aliens, and it was only the Civil Protection that were human volunteers.

No, any combine unit that looks like a human is. The more elite, however, the more modification they've undergone. You could make a case for the Snowmen (Combine Elites) not being human anymore, but the point is that they were at one point.

I am more curious about the haze soldiers or even halo's spartans. Genetic modification/power pumping hallucinogenic drugs seems far out. How that transformation would go. It makes me almost wanna buy the games so i can find out what the previously mentioned super soldiers felt about their "transformation" from regular people to badass mofos. Did it hurt, do you feel inhuman now, and finally when you were completely transformed did you just wanna go out to a bar and pick a fight with the nearest tough guy there.

Yeah, but their actually humans with alien transplants (The overwatch refers to them as "trans-human" a couple of times, and you can see a trans human without their suit on, and their are clearly modifications.

That and the biggest clue is their name. The Combine. It makes sense that a multigalatic empire would recruit and modify the native species for integration and survival purposes.

Although the fact their name is a verb still strikes me as weird.

Ah, well I stand corrected then. It begs the question though, that if the bulk of the Combine Overwatch is made up of previously human combatants, then what did their forces consist of when they took over Earth in the Seven Hour War, before they would have had time to capture/transform humans in any significant numbers?

Imagine, a person turned into a combine, then turned into a spartan. O_0

It's heavily implied that, since humans would be the best of all their forces at traversing Earth, having evolved here and all, their main force on Earth is post-human (what the Resistance refers to Soldiers and such as), with a little Synth backup (i.e, Striders), and therefore their main force on the Strider world would be Striders, on the Vort world would be Vorts (or possibly Antlions, as one vort makes a reference to their ancestral practice of "antlion husbandry"), etc. It's also implied that all the Combine really want Earth for is the resources (notice the drained oceans?) and soldiers/stalkers.

It's also a noun. A Combine is a type of company, in the same way a Corporation is.

And knowing is half the battle!

It would suck, because you'd get either bashed with a crowbar or blown to bits by Gordon Freeman.
