Lately? The world's been in the shitter for years. In fact, it's already sitting in sewage treatment, stuck in a little bend in the pipe so it can't go through the process to be cleaned. However, if it weren't for the bad, we wouldn't recognize the good for what it is, and it makes it all that much sweeter.ninonybox360 said:

We're talking several billion. You have sports stars paid billions of pounds to do a physical activity, meanwhile people who actually help society get paid less, much less. Doctors don't get paid billions, neither do police officers, clinical psychologists, fire fighters and other roles that help install a sense of stability in society. I'd go as far as to say if you were assessing the worth of a job based purely on annual pay, you'd pretty much conclude that sports is more important than academic success of all kinds.ninonybox360 said:

As for life, yup.
In 2 days life will be wonderful when I start launching fireworks, in 2 weeks life will be beyond wonderful when I will be in Russia drinking with my cousins. Right now? Life is decent.

More governments are democratic now than ever before. Education and access to information for citizens globally has never been better. Thanks to advances in conventional weapon technology, nuclear weapons are completely passe at this point and the big kick-ass nuclear war that people thought was going to happen 20 years ago and plunge us into post-apocalyptic wasteland simply will not occur, ever.
That's not to say everything is sweetness and light, there's still problems in the world, but things are better now than they've ever been, and improving all the time. Probably the only thing that can genuinely stop the human race from progress toward brighter times at this point is a big wave of uneducated trendy Internet nihilism.
It's real to the point of what our brains experiences I suppose. Sort of like Matrix except the "hacking" part of it and *coffs* survival of mankind.zombiesinc said:

Of course it's just a theory.
A little addendum to add to this, violent crime rates are also steadily decreasing in more industrialized nations, so things are going quite swimmingly. If we invest more time and money into the pursuit of social and societal problems rather than constant and pointless technological improvements (computers are way more advanced than we need them to be for pretty much all facets of life at the moment), we could really be on our way to a pretty pristine, if somewhat boring, future.BonsaiK said:

Well, billions of people have lived out 30 year lives caked in mud and manure, being told they were the most horrible sinfull creatures that ever blighted the earth, and left no complaints. I'm not saying they were not entitled to, but I agree that life today isn't bad. I'm sure the future will be much better than now, but if life is a game of chance you could have done much much worse than today.
