So I was thinking about an interesting concept for a game, I call it Life.

With a title like that, you might be thinking of the famous board game, but my idea is far from it.

Basically this game would follow the life of the given character, from birth, to death. In it, you play "God". Now I know you're thinking "Uh...okay then?"., but hear me out.

In this game, you could pretty much do whatever you want with the character, good or bad. Like for instance, let's say he's in his mid thirties, and just won 300 million in the lottery, so you make him invest it all in stock. Well if you want to screw him over, send the stock market to a crash.

I'm sure it would take a while to build, and I'm not sure how many of you are actually open to the idea, and forgive me if my description is unclear, it's quite hard to explain. In summary, this game wouldn't be like The Sims, or Sim City, it would be MUCH more in depth, and much more hands on, with this game, there would be NO limits.

So what do you think?

To sum it all up, this game would be like a second life for you, only what you do in this game would have no real affect to your real life.

So what do you think?
There will be serial rapists! In the game. There will be mass murderers not seen since Hitler! In the game. It sounds interesting enough, but I don't think it would sell well.

You know what, this could work well as a tabletop pen-and-paper game. This "god" character could be the GM, while the actual human characters could be the other players. The god character should set up a situation, and each human character should respond to it. Then, the god character decided who to reward and who to screw-over, just like in real life. Meanwhile, a video recorder should be recording everything. Once everyone decides to stop playing, they stop recording. Then, they all watch the video, and each write books about it. Then they each publish the books under different publishers, and then sue each other for copyright infringement. In the end, only one of them wins and the rest are dropped from their publishers. Wow, that is just like real life!

Next you're going to want to hook into a VR simulator for a real life experience

and then you may as well nuke humanity, because it's all over.

If many did that, they'd probably starve to death. To tell you the truth, that sounds a lot like natural (or, in this case, artificial) selection. It would weed out all the slow-witted people who get easily addicted to escapism. On the ruins of this self-destructed civilization, a new one would be built. But, then it'd probably be destroyed in a similar manner, in due time.

I doubt you took me seriously, which is good, because I'm just joshing you.

This game you're proposing sounds like an exercise in redundancy. If the game were truly made to be like real life, the only way to get ahead would be to conform to society's standards. Why bother doing that in a game, though, when it would make much more sense to do it in real life?

Well, people can always "practice" certain actions in the game that they may want to do in real life. For example, if they wanted to invest stock in a company, they first may do it in the game. Then, if they see the consequences of the company's failure in the game, they may decide not to take the chance in real life. But, typically, if one were to consider the possibilities in his/her mind, then he/she would not need to go throught all of that in a game. Oh well, to each his/her own.

I've played this game. It's called Alter Ego, and is a really old game. Sure, many people here are too young to even consider it a game, since it doesn't even have a graphical interface (*Gasp!*), but the game is awesome. You start by being born, and then control every action. My first playthrough I got kidnapped by a serial child rapists at the age of 7, since I couldn't run fast enough.

My second playthrough I made to the age of 70, where I first found a really nice girl at around 20 years old to cheat on my wife with, but got depressed since I was too old to satisfy her. The next day I was on a boat and saw a kid fall off, so I jumped in after him to save him! And accidently drowned, failing to save the kid. That's something you never hear, you always hear about people heroically dying to save the child, but never that they fail, and kill themselves in the process.

Amazing game that.

I've played alter ego, if anyone is interested it can be found on Abandonia for free :) . But a warning, it definitely comes from the era when graphics were so bad that they seriously hampered gameplay.

I just played through. Spent a few hours, at that...
I lived a happy, simple life. It was nice.

while yes it is fun watching your creations suffer, I wouldn't buy it, it gets boring like the sims after a while, in fact it nearly is the sims...

For Christ's sake, who needs a "game of life"?
This concept really does not make me respect you, can't you just live the life you've already got?

Although that gives me the idea of having the guy play the same game you are. (It would be really meta to watch a game about the game). I feel that in the end this game would just lead to following around a regular guy in a regular life. This seems to be in contradiction to the basic idea of games, which is to see something new and interesting that you wouldn't normally see. Normality tends to be boring. If your just going to watch a guy live his life, you mind as well walk outside and live your own life. Then you get personal benefit outside of a meaningless simulation.
Of course having the power to mess with life would be cool, but in the end I think we all know that gamers would rather screw up his life then have good things happen to him. Most would probably make his life as bad as possible, poor guy, before getting bored with it and moving on to something else.

There is actually a pretty awesome satirical flash game called like this. I can't find it at the moment but it's somewhere on Newgrounds.

I had something a long the same line except as an in this game you would be the Governor of a city and you could do whatever you want, literally, it'd play like if you combined GTA and Civilization. Also in the game you'd be able to go to war with other cities. While for the city you live in you could do whatever you wanted and make laws for the people such as "Do not attack citizens with green suits and orange shoes" or soemthing like that. And things letting you download or upload pictures, words (for the laws), guns and y'know that kind of stuff. It'd probably take a lot of memory though, that's the only problem. But hey I think it'd be interesting, which means i support your idea of "Life" as well.

The one on the right doesn't even look human. But seriously, what you describe is just a mix between Life and The Sims.

I'm still laughing. It really is that damn funny!
It is a bit, its like the one on the left has realized the one on the rights plans for an invasion. And he is scared.
