I found this story about how the EU are banning frosted glass light bulbs, so someone made a condom type device to fit over the normal blubs to give the frosted effect.

"Protect yourself from stupid rules, use the Euro Condom!"

Im just wondering how many stupid laws do people know that have been passed recently, and did they have any creative and funny reactions against them?

That...That is one of the most ridiculously awesome things I have ever seen. The law may be stupid, yes, but it spawned genius.

Alas, I know of no stupid laws. Sorry I can't contribute.

At least the lucky bastards can still use those kinds of lights, in Australia we have to use energy saver lights. All others have been banned.

They're so expensive, though! I rent an apartment, and I don't like that much light from the bulb. The frosted glass bulbs cost something like $0.37 each, compared to the $3.69 for a 3 pack of the CFB's, and the frosted glass bulbs still yeild light, but it's not that annoying white light, it's that soft yellowish kind, which is so much more comfortable.

Wait.... wouldn't the condom melt from the heat generated by the light?

What I was thinking, but I guess it is some kind of heat resistant rubber.

But why did the EU ban frosted bulbs?

Soon they'll ban the bulb and the wire would just burn by itself because the glass reflected light.

Basically the idea is that the new energy saver lights use less power thus preventing carbon emitions. It's a good idea, problem is I find that the light from the energy saver lights are crap.

I get that it saves energy, but really, going so far as to [b/]BAN[/b] regular light bulbs is kinda weird.

Oh, well. Its just light bulbs I guess.

Maybe ban wasn't the right word, basically if you have them you can use them but you can no longer buy them.

Thats still kind of a ban. If you can't buy them then its a ban I guess. Buts its kinda hypocritical to not sell them, but say you can use them.

Bonus points, the energy savers (at least the ones the govt wants used in the US, may be different over there) are WAY worse for the environment. To the point where you're supposed to dispose of them as hazardous materials. And should they break, you're actually supposed to have HAZMAT come and clean it up. Fun, huh?

Well I can only assume it's because they didn't want massive landfills of perfectly useable light bulbs.

I live in Massachusetts where everything is stupid but here's a goody from http://www.dumblaws.com
All men must carry a rifle to church on Sunday.
The burn is that Massachusetts has some of the most restrictive gun laws in America.

I was hoping for a condom that lights up.
God I would have had a good laugh.
