A while back, there was a thread about just random things that make people happy. At the risk of being a Xerox machine or imitating Reddit, I'm all for starting a new one.
I'm a part of a club that looks for ancient music. While we typically do make genuine efforts, sometimes we just like finding funny stuff and showing it or looking at things that only vaguely relate to the ancient world or music. As the worst example, I did a presentation on the friggin' Titanic for no other reason than they wanted me to present Celine Dion's "masterpiece." God I hate that song.
Anyways, here are a few recent gems we've come across.
On top of it being Sting (who we all love) doing the music of John Dowland (which we're starting to look at), there's just something so funny about an overly enthusiastic lute player sitting by himself while Sting and 3 of his clones sing to themselves around a table.
Then there's this.
It's from a recording from the 1960s or so. It's a fairly accurate portrayal of what the Greek productions of Oedipus Rex would be like. The subtlety is something to behold, eh?
Why are we, a group that studies ancient music, looking at it?
Because of this masterpiece.
I like it better than either of the originals.
So let's all kick back and enjoy each other's company, shall we?
