This a literally a "Don't judge a book by it's cover moment."
Not really, these not being books and all. Sorry, had to point that out.

Sheesh Funk...You are a soooooo 1900-1940s
(Referring that in the old days, a woman showing her thigh was considered a slut).

It doesn't grab your attention because Lightning's bright color scheme doesn't stand out from the background. They need some contrast badly.

Wait, that's her leg?...Uncool, dude. Her leg is strange. Still, it seems awesome, but this was one weird box. Especially with FF and Microsoft logos together.

The PAL box arts of for example FF-X, X-2 and XII were beautiful. Just the title logo on white. I was hoping they'd go for that again. Oh well.

If only they hired the guy who made the posters for the Star Wars movies to do the boxart. Now he could really make an action scene.

I don't like these boxarts with just one character on them. Way too egotistical.

She looks really stiff... -_o That pose is just unnatural and unattractive. I don't see anything against using her on the cover or anything, it's just... looking at that, I know that's not a comfortable position in which to either stand or hold a weapon.

Why is she wearing so many belts?

Anyways, I don't see why they put her on the cover. She doesn't really need to be there and it doesn't make the box art look any better.

Wait... is this the case for all regions?
What happened to the plain white case, with the 'final Fantasy (insert number here) with a coloured image in the background which referenced to something in the game...?

While I have no complaints about having attractive women on my game cases, I would probably feel a bit guilty buying it. Same level of guilt you have when buying a top shelf magazine.

I don't see what's wrong with it. She has one leg up, like what others said, the Captain Morgan pose. It's not really that crazy. I see worse walking on the streets every day. When did boxart become such a big deal?

thats an very unnatural and creepy angle her leg have, i think thats why you dont like it.
Unnatural and creepy?! What's wrong with you? This is just the Japanese style. Hell, this is LIGHT compared to other covers of Japanese games/anime you can come across. Besides, box art isn't a big deal and if you don't like it, don't buy it.

I like how the leg is posed right next to the age recommendation, as if to drive the point home.

"Yes parents, if your child is not well into puberty, this probably isn't the game for them."

One can't help but wonder if the North American art will continue the simplistic, understated trend, or if they'll have to dig out an action shot of Lightning being a gritty badass.
In many many cases, the american boxart is way more action-oriented than the japanese or europese boxarts.

I don't like your alternative with sleipnir. It's too much "swords, fights, action!". The way it is now I think is more sophisticated.
