Recently I've been binging on Stephen King novels, and alas I have come to the end of reading all of his books. :( Can any Escapees recommend some authors who are (to borrow a phrase from Yahtzee) like Stephen King but...not? Preferably really long ones like The Stand or IT :) Thanks!

Also, who is your favourite horror writer? Mine is M. R. James. "Oh Whistle And I'll Come To You, My Lad" scared my pants off. I still can't find 'em.

I remember watching IT a decade ago and i loved it. Then i picked up the book a year ago and could not put it down. The film missed a bit from the book, but it did keep alot. But i must say i liked the book alot better.

In short i also would like a good suggestion that's something like IT but a different author.

Jeff Lindsey - Dexter
Jim Butcher - The Dresden Files
Clive Barker - Anything of his.
H.P. Lovecraft - A glutinous deluge of lexicon, but such a great creation.
Daphne Du Maurier - Rebecca, The Birds.
Elizabeth Kostova - The Historian, Swan Thieves
Charles Stross - The Laundry Series - Ian Fleming meets H.P.Lovecraft and Douglas Adams.
Stoker and Shelley, of course.
Thomas Harris - Hannibal

That should get you started. :)

Scott Sigler. He is a little faster than King but some of the images made me sick. Also really fun stories.

Graham Masterton is pretty good, especially the Devils of D-Day and Walkers.

More suspense, less gore.

Wow I must give you props, that man has written so many books. If you haven't read on writing. At the end he talks about the books he likes and is currently reading as well as authers to look at.
