Hey A while ago i posted a thread for people to describe old games they can rememvber playing but can't remember the title of in the hopes of finding classics they once enjoyed.

Admittedly this wasn't a fully selfless act I had my own little quest to find. The game was a demo from what i think was a Computer Shopper magazine disk. Set in a dark almost black arena and while driving around in vehicles that left a trail behind you had to force an opponent into your trail to kill them.

The reply i got back was overwhelingly Tron The lightcycle battles I was thrilled, had I finally found the game I've lost for so long?

Short answer. No

Recently downloading Tron 2.0 demo I tried the Lightcycle battles and the rules are almost identcle. It's uncanny! but Graphically.. it's not the same The Walls from the 'lightcycles' i remember were slightly translucent and glowed against the dark backdrop. The end of a wall wasn't jsut a clean but but faded into nothingness.

So I ask you... Do you know a game like this that May possibly have ripped off Tron?

There are lots of lightcycle games, so it's difficult to figure out which one it was. The only cuepoint we for now have, is the visual style of the walls.

Lightcycle games i know of:

- GLTron

- Armagetron

- RevoTron

- Something that was called similiar to "lightcycle game grid champions". It was an unfinished and rough demo, but i have never ever seen another lightcycle game with such an immersive cockpit view and camera mechanics.

- There also were one or two commercial games, that added lots of extras, and had other vehicles than cycles - but with the basic rules still intact. I don't remember their specific names anymore though.

------------

Personally, i'm not satisfied with any of the lightcycle games out. Armagetron gets the feeling right, and has multiplayer - but it is a typical hackers game.... full of raw unpolished edges, for some stuff one even needs to edit configfiles. Plus, it visually to me is just "acceptable".

GLTron has perhaps the best visuals and interface, but the feeling and handling is wrong, it doesn't have a "racing each other"-mechanic, and it has no multiplayer last time i checked.

Revotron too has no multiplayer, and is at best just a demo.

Gamegrid Champions... well, the cockpit certainly feels awesome, but thats already everything thats great about it.
